We had wanted to come to this BYOB for quite some time and made a Friday evening reservation. The hostess greeted us, and we were seated by the window (she also asked for our water preference . Our server, Tom, promptly introduced himself, asked if we had dined there before, and then explained that ITA101 was not like the other Americanized Italian restaurants in the area (great! , and that the chef had lived in northern Italy and aimed to cook more in the traditional Italian style with the freshest ingredients available. From the homemade bread and pasta to the attention to minute detail on the ingredients, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The heirloom tomato mozzarella salad was excellent. The tomatoes had tons of flavor and the micro basil and the olive oil colored balsamic vinegrette were delicious. I have an intolerance to the acid in most balsamic vinegrettes but this was subtle and not acidic and delicious. The cauliflower appetizer with black cauliflower was also delicious! My pasta was an angel hair with sun dried tomato pesto, very rich and filling and tasty. If you're looking for genuinely authentic Italian cuisine, this is the place to be. I assure you, my Italian husband was nearly in tears (which is very unusual for him) as he said the food transported him back to Italy, reminding him of the last time he had a dish like this. We have been on a long quest for true Italian food, and we have finally found it. We are incredibly grateful. The staff is delightful, and the restaurant has a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Having lived in northern Italy, I can confidently say that this restaurant is the only one that truly transports me back! The chef trained in Italy for years, and you can definitely taste the authenticity in each dish. We opted for the pasta tasting, and every single course was exquisite. The next day, when my wife reheated her meal, she was shocked to find a piece of wood in her spaghetti that nearly broke her tooth. It's hard to believe that such a foreign object ended up on our plates. Surely, someone in the kitchen should be checking the dishes before they're served to customers. This experience was very disappointing, and I can't, in good conscience, recommend the restaurant to anyone.
Our party of 4 enjoyed a pasta tasting menu. All 3 selections were delicious. Our server was very polite, friendly, attentative, and informative. The ceiling had sound proofing, however when the dining room filled, it was difficult to hear the conversation at your own table. The ambiance was pleasant, and decor was tastefully designed. Just finished another outstanding meal at ITA101. Pure genius. Sunday Sagre of figs. 4 courses $45. Enjoyed with dry rosè. I am humbled that we have a chef of this caliber in our neighborhood.
