I read about this restaurant in Patricia Wells 's book The Food Lover 's Guide to Paris and since it was down the block from our hotel, we booked a late dinner reservation for two on a Saturday night. I 'm so glad that we did! The service was attentive and my husband found his sashimi to be very fresh and of good quality. The miso-glazed black cod was delicious and I ordered a side of rice, which was nice and not sweet. I liked their soy and garlic edamame too and will be changing things up for our sushi nights at home. I wish I had taken advantage of their extensive sake menu, something to look forward to next visit!
I ate lunch with a friend and had a bento box. The only good thing with this place was the sake (they have a good sake menu). The service was careless and imprecise. I got the wrong bento box and although it was corrected the bento box was not very inspiring (the sashimi was mostly just plain salmon). I admit that I compare this to my experience with Japanese restaurants in Japan and the US, which may be a bit unfair, but Paris should catch up!
The owner and owner, who is French, has lived in Japan for years, and speaks Japanese. He is crisscrossing the archipelago several times a year, where he organizes gastronomic trips and tries to discover all kinds of places and treasures of this cuisine and culture. Owned by a Japanese cuisine expert who lived many years in Japan, this authentic Japanese bistrot offers a large choice of traditional izakaya-type meals: bentô, sushi, kattei ryori. Everything is fresh and delicious. A must-go address in the center of Paris, a few blocks from the Louvres Museum and Tuileries garden.
