It's hard to find good soups and sandwiches these days, but JHS delivers. I love this island - there's nothing quite like taking a ferry and leaving the mainland behind. I would say that JHS is the best addition to the island's dining scene in years. The restaurant has a beautiful location overlooking a rock island, with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating options. I had the best slice of cherry pie of my life here, no joke. They offer a good selection of craft brews, ciders, and non-alcoholic options. The rotating soup menu has been consistently amazing. I was exploring Washington Island for the first time when I followed a car into the parking lot and discovered a gem of a restaurant with an outdoor fireplace and a view overlooking Rock Island and the beach. The staff was incredibly friendly and assisted me in choosing the best food options. From the various pies to the hot and cold sandwiches, the service was outstanding. This spot is a must-stop for lunch that both locals and visitors adore. I highly recommend it!
I am glad they had the OPEN flag up, otherwise we may not have stopped in. The cashier and servers were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. The French onion soup and half French dip sandwich were delicious. The au jus spilled on the plate and made the bun a bit soggy, but it was still tasty. The potato soup was hearty and creamy. The pulled pork special was excellent. The view was stunning and I will definitely be coming back.
