What a disappointment. We ordered: garlic shrimp w/ sweet plantains cabbage, side of Mac cheese, side of corn on the cob, and a side of bone-in jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was GREAT but half of the container was chicken back which is essentially just bone. The mac cheese was good (some dry parts) and tasted fresh. The sweet plantains were BEYOND oily but good once we poured patted the oil out. The parts of the corn that weren 't burnt tasted very good. The garlic shrimp looked good but it was not cleaned properly and was oil, peppers, and onions with 4 shrimp instead. Also ordered a bottled drink that was not put into the bag.
We hired Jamaica Mi Hungry to provide catering for our daughter's bat mitzvah this spring. Our experience all around was absolutely spectacular. Communication with restaurant/catering staff was always very easy and smooth (and they were super responsive all along), the folks we worked with were generous, friendly and helpful throughout the entire process, and importantly, the food was simply outstanding. We heard glowing feedback about the food from SO MANY of our guests. We're so grateful to have worked with these folks, and to have this gem of a restaurant right in our neighborhood. Can't recommend more highly!
I'm not an expert on Jamaican food, but I got the coconut shrimp and ox tails. Each came with 2 sides. The food was extremely flavorful and the ox tails had a little kick. The dill slaw was delicious. My only beef, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is prob not really with the restaurant. I ordered thru Door Dash and was told my order would be ready in a little over an hour. When I went to pick it up, it wasn't super hot and actually seemed as though it had been under the heat lamps the majority of that hr. Next time I'll just walk in and order.
We hired Jamaika Mi Hungry to cater our daughter's bat mitzvah early this year, and our experience was truly fantastic. The communication with the restaurant was always easy and efficient, with quick responses. The staff we interacted with were kind, friendly, and helpful. The food was delicious and we received many compliments from our guests. We are grateful to have worked with such wonderful people and have this gem of a restaurant in our neighborhood. I was very happy to find this place on jackson square in jamaika plain. I had no high expectations of eating, but I was starving. to my joy was eating great. the service was very nice. I ordered several items and each one was delicious. I can say clearly that it is not prefabricated eating. it's fresh. with good ingredients. if they are looking for the hearty, well prepared, delicious food, and variety this is their place. I'll be back in a moment.
The staff are nasty. The server has his mask down, exposing his nose and mouth. And talking to the other server with a tray of food on his hands; then place the try in the warmer Even before restaurants servers do not talk over the food. I should have taken a picture. Please do not eat there period. That experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
Got Uber eats and it was so good!! Everything was hot (even the beef patty). It was my first time trying this spot and it was a great experience. I ordered the goat curry with stewed vegetables and a beef patty. The meal was $25 (extra $3 for the veggies) and the patty was $5. Little pricey but I think delivery always costs more than in store.
We ordered takeout from this restaurant last night and absolutely enjoyed the coconut shrimp, ribs, plantains, dill slaw, rice and beans, and brussel sprouts. Went with my 91 year old cousin, Dr. Jean McGuire. We had oxtails and the food was fabulous! Her dad lived in Jamaica the last 25 years of his life so she spent a lot of time there and knows what good Jamaican food tastes like. She was so impressed that she had to hug the chef!
