Jar is a Modern American Chophouse that stands for ?Just Another Restaurant.? However, for me, it is not just another restaurant. Jar is a very intimate, small, and delicious restaurant with excellent service, great food, and great ambiance. When entering the restaurant, I already knew I would have a wonderful time. We had perfect seating, and our waiter, John, and the wait staff were very on top of it, and everything came out in perfect timing, not too slowly butnot too quickly. We started with appetizers and drinks. I am all for a White Russian, so that was my first drink, and then for the table, we got a dozen oysters and black mussels. Jar is an acronym for Just Another Restaurant, which specializes in classic American dishes but elevated. Last night was my first time dining for dinner but it won?t be my last. I love how low lit it is and every seat in the house is very comfortable whether you sit in a booth or one of the tables. Our server John was also very knowledgeable, funny, and did a great job. We arrived 20 minutes early and didn?t expect to be seated until our booked time but they offered to seatus early and did so, which was really appreciated. The food at JAR is superb, plus excellent value for the quality. It’s also an “easy” restaurant, very comfortable, yet beautiful and modern and a place you can dress up if you want (we did). We were 4 people, had the pork chops (fave meal there for my husband); French fries (the Yummiest, skinny and crisp and thick dusting of real parsley), skirt steak with creamy horseradish sauce a bit chewy but good flavor; filet mignon with roasted onion and green peppercorn sauce delicious, duck not my thing, but the man who ordered it ate it all up; a special tempura squash blossom and shrimp appetizer with ponzu sauce we lapped it up; the spring greens veg I get it every time; creamed corn I didn’t tr...

Terrific attention to service and truly listening to the guest. For me the big down side was that there were several diners who did not respect the dress code, most notably a man who can in full gym gear shorts, gym shoes, ball cap… it was disrespectful to the other guests and the restaurant which clearly states the dress code. Personally, I do not want to see your sweaty hairy arms and legs next to me at the table. At the very least, take off your hat. Delicious classics and many reinventions. The atmosphere is so regal and chic but not overly done. It is a true exception in San Francisco in terms of service and atmosphere. The food is good if not great and i would choose Jar for many good conversations with close friends to discuss life changes while having a meal deserving of the occasion

There is truly nothing like a fine dining experience at a restaurant with white tablecloths, martinis, and steak. We enjoyed chatting for 2.5 hours and loved every second of our meal. We initially came because of the recommendation from POOG, but stayed because the food was delicious and the atmosphere was fancy.

This was my first time here and it was a great experience. The service from the entire staff was great. All of the food was delicious and so were the drinks. The Jar Fries and the char su pork were my 2 favorite
