Planning to dine at Jiko? Pack a cap. A cap you say? No you did not read that incorrectly. The lighting here is an absolute joke. Almost every table has a spot light which is shining down onto a persons head. It makes the dining experience extremely unpleasant. I had to move seats. I raised this with my server and she seemed confused as if no one had ever noted the lighting was not appropriate. I visited this restaurant for a late dinner and ordered the filet. I wish they offered mashed potatoes, but the mac and cheese was still quite tasty. For dessert, I tried the Potjie Pot dessert, which I found to be absolutely delicious, especially since I love chocolate! I also took a picture of the Melktert, which is worth mentioning. For two people, our bill came to around $150 before tip, which included two main courses, two desserts, and drinks. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for a nice meal. Service was excellent for dine-in.
This restaurant stands out for its excellent service and incredible flavors. However, I can only give it 3 stars due to the steep price increase. In 2014, the bread service was $9.99, but now it costs $22.99. That's hard to believe! While I understand that prices can rise, this feels like a slap in the face to consumers. The short rib was outstanding—tender and bursting with flavor. The filet was cooked perfectly, and the mac and cheese served alongside was fantastic.
