My friend recommended this restaurant to me about a month ago after I complained that there were no sould food restaurants in NoVA. I ordered fried whiting, fried okra, candied yams peach cobbler for dessert. THE FOOD WAS BUSSIN'!!! The fish platter came w/ hushpuppies that were a little greasy, BUT STILL DELICIOUS the yams almost tasted like my mamas! The fish was fried in cornmeal came with 3 big pieces. Honestly, when you first approach the restaurant, it doesn't seem like much. However, once inside, you are greeted with good music, fantastic service, and a friendly atmosphere. Our server was incredibly polite and continuously checked in to see if we needed anything. He even went above and beyond by asking if we had any questions or concerns about the food, which is a rare occurrence these days. I had nothing but positive feedback to give. The food selection and quality were both top-notch, and everything we tried - particularly the Mac n' cheese, fried okra, and BBQ wings - was delicious. Johnny Ray's is definitely worth the hype! I'm from out of town, but decided to stop by based on the ratings, and I'm so glad I did. The woman at the counter was extremely helpful in recommending what to order. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. The sticky wings, mac and cheese, potato salad, and cornbread were all fantastic. The portions were generous and well-priced. The staff was friendly, checking on us to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The food reminds me of home! I ordered the catfish with a side of okra and collards w/ cabbage. It was perfect. The flavor was amazing and it was perfectly crispy. I will 100% be back and I will recommend this restraunt to everyone! Located in a hidden corner, this small restaurant exceeded all expectations. The food was fantastic, the staff was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was delightful. Service was prompt and attentive. Perfect spot for a nice dinner. Prices were reasonable, around $10-20 per person. Highly recommend trying the Mac and Cheese and the Catfish with Cornbread.

This place is up there in my top spots. The food is delicious seasoned to the t. Those yams was slap yo mama good. To top it off the service was top notch courteous and professional. I will be back.
