This Greek restaurant is amazing! There is plenty of seating and it's a lovely spot for a quiet dinner. Located in the heart of Greektown, there is street parking available as well as a few GreenP lots nearby. We tried the Tzatziki dip and Feta cheese with warm bread, perfect for sharing. The spinach pies (Spanakopitakiya) were delicious, shaped like mini samosas, and the stuffed vine leaves (Dolmades) were also tasty. Have been trying out all the Greek places on Danforth to compare their salads. My daughter and I have gone to Astoria for decades and I thought it was time to try some other places and see how they compare. Kalyvia was OK, at least as far as the salad goes. The large was certainly that. Could've had more feta in my opinion however. A smattering of olives and sliced tomatoes. Unlike Messini, when I asked for no onions, that's how it came but overall Messini was tastier and I think a dollar or two less for the same choices. $29 for lunch with a light beer and tip.
The pizza was incredibly soggy, the crust was flat, and the toppings were okay. The staff were also incredibly unwelcoming. I kindly asked out of curiosity about halal toppings and that’s when the customer service got really bad. I asked about Mediterranean toppings and they deliberately started listing pork toppings (which aren’t specifically Mediterranean). Other customers were treated with much more respect. If you’re not white, don’t come here especially if you’re Muslim.
Great service at this restaurant. After all these years their salad dressing is still my favourite on the Danforth. Quiet. Tidy. Professional service. Good recommendations. Amerzing!. We really liked how easy it was to order in. We ordered the three-dip combination as well as the Kalyvia pizza, which is thin crust with feta, tomatoes, mozarella, and artichokes. Delicious, big serving for two people. Very authentic and tasty, well-priced, and decent delivery time (45 minutes). Highly recommended.
Really like this restaurant. Really tasty food, good quantities, good service, good price. Love their eggplant dip... Girlfriend and I got that with olives for starters, and their souvlaki plates.. couldn't get to the plates because we were already full. Will definitely return. Are you kidding me? Home made Gyros? OH my goodness, what sweet beautiful music the gyro chef's are cooking up at Kalivia! I try to stop in every return home to east york. Mouth is watering thinking about the chicken gyros....mmmm Greek goodness!!
One of my top 5 restaurants in the city of Toronto been here more than 50 times over 13 years and have never had a bad experience. Excellent food, superior service, short wait times, moderate prices. Very highly recommended!
