Kanpai has been hit or miss for a long time and just isn't worth the risk. They have other Sushi Restaurants that are way more consistent with the food. Went with a this week and place is way too bright (personal dislike) and the Crab Rangoons were good as was some of the other sushi but ordered some Eel Sushi and it was not good, I mean like at all, was grey and nasty. If your product isn't fresh, don't sell it. I would rather hear we are out of something then be served bad quality food. It ruined my dates experience. This is why I stopped going and only returned because my date wanted to go, now probably neither of us will return.
Good middle of the road Japanese food.The interior is pretty sparse, they had the NCAA basketball game on pretty loudly, then some pop music. Not the worst place for lunch, but get the sushi to go if you want a date night.Vegetarian options: Veggie rolls, avocado rolls, cream cheese rolls, salad, etcWheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible, though the door opens outward and you have to pull hard. I think someone in a wheelchair would need help getting into the door
Unique Japanese food! Their sushi is amazing along with their traditionally dishes, but done with a unique, tasty twist. Not your cookie cutter Japanese restaurant. My favorites:Godzilla sushi (popular)Yum Yum roll Pow Pow Shrimp tacoOne of their tasty craft draft beersFried rice it always tastes freshThe ambience is really nice for eating out. It's a small restaurant, but cozy. Take out is a popular option too.
I understand that we don't live close to the coast, and the plate was cheap all things considered, but presentation was sub-par, there were two white fish cuts which are normally used as filler on a sashimi platter, and the tuna isn't real tuna, or if it is, it's a horrible cut they are buying. The salmon was decent, though.Not a horrible place. You get what you pay for, though

Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and the takeout was ready in less than 20 min. There?s no sign on the road outside the restaurant so it was easy to miss. The food was pretty good, especially the crab Rangoons and s?mores egg roll. Veggie spring rolls were wrapped in this see through shell which was... a new experience...
In my opinion probably the best Sushi place in Evansville. My wife and I went for supper and the food was excellent. Our server, Lillie was extremely friendly and personable. Her genuine personality made us want to come back. If you want sushi or interesting Asian influenced dishes Kanpai is always a good choice..Food: 5/5
This is a great little Asian bistro with a big selection of appetizers and sushi rolls. Tonight we got the Godzilla Nachos (definitely meant for four people) and four rolls. Absolutely delicious and great service!
Sushi boat always a good choice for a group.. I love this place never have I ever had a bad experience at kanpai. Definitely my go to place for sushi. Would highly recommend for a great place to go!Food: 5/5

Delicious food. Generous portions. The brussel sprouts are super yummy (and I'm not a sprout fan) Our waitress was amazing. If you leave hungry it's your own fault.Food: 5/5
