I visited in early December on a Monday at 11 a.m., and I must say, if this photo doesn't entice you, I don't know what will. The pancakes were absolutely delicious, the eggs were incredibly fresh with large yolks, and the bacon strips were fantastic—thin, delicate, crispy, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The service was exceptional as well. I truly wish I could share a video of the impressive Christmas diorama outside of 5th Ave, NY, which covered an entire wall of the restaurant. It featured multiple moving figures, including mice, elves, soldiers, and even Santa himself, sitting in his house reading his Nice and Naughty book by the light of a Tiffany lamp. Absolutely delightful! Firstly, the service was excellent. The staff were incredibly kind, and placing a takeout order was a breeze. Secondly, the food was truly delicious—just wonderful homestyle southern cooking. I ordered the steak and eggs, which came with home fries and the amazing homemade biscuits. We also shared the pumpkin pancakes with cream cheese butter, which were simply outrageous! A special shoutout to Gabriella, who was so sweet and patient, and even gave our dog a little treat! A wonderful way to find an amazing local restaurant is to take a drive around the city and look for the place with the most cars in the parking lot. That's how we stumbled upon Kathy's during a day trip to Staunton from Richmond, and we were so glad we did. The fried oyster sandwich was absolutely delicious, and everything else we sampled was equally impressive!
The service was fantastic! I enjoyed the cookies and sausage gravy with eggs, and it was absolutely perfect! The hash browns were also delicious! It was the ideal Southern meal with a cozy ambiance. I went to this restaurant for lunch and was seated immediately without any wait. Unfortunately, due to being short-staffed, it took around 40 minutes for my food to arrive. As for the meal, it was fairly average—nothing more than typical American cuisine.
Every time my girlfriend and I come here the breakfast is delicious, the coffee is hot, and the prices reasonable. This time around, our server, Carol, took wonderful care of us, and I can't wait to come back for more steak and eggs!
I love Kathy's. Home cooking for a good price and great hometown atmosphere. My Dad said its worth the money just to see the little kids.
