Let's start with the positive aspect - the cakes were nearly always delicious. However, the rest of the food and service were disappointing today. The pork chop and Russian dumplings were tasteless, and the spinach dumplings were barely edible. Only my husband managed to eat his dish, as the rest of us found it lacking in flavor. The portion of potatoes served with the main meal was very small. The staff were awkward and some were unprofessional. When we asked for tap water, the waitress brought us glasses of warm water and insisted it was from the tap, despite the glasses being warm from the dishwasher. We will not be returning to this restaurant, although we may return for the cakes.
this cafe in the Polish cultural centre in the Hammersmith area offers amazing food at sensational prices. I most recently had roast pork with salad and mashed potato while my vegetarian girlfriend opted for the potato pancakes with mushrooms. Both were delicious and, as I recall, only about 6 quid or so. Also the cakes are fab! In addition, they have a drinks licence and they serve great polish beers. Do bear in mind this is really more of a cafeteria, but they also have a proper restaurant a few floors up that is equally delightful and slightly more pricey but still a good deal. If I lived in the area, I would probably convert my kitchen into an extra bedroom and eat here every day!
I entered this café this morning only to leave shortly after due to the rude and arrogant male staff member at the counter (dark hair, bearded). As I waited to be served, he walked past me without acknowledging me and gave me a nasty look. It's a shame because the food seemed appetizing, but I will not be coming back here. A tip for the staff: it is important to show respect and good manners to customers in the hospitality industry. Based on previous reviews, it seems that rudeness from staff is a common issue at Cafe Maja.
I have ordered pierogi for my children, after about half an hour when I asked how much longer do I have to wait, as my two year old was very hungry, they released that my order was lost and one of the waitresses was very rude to me, she was shouting and when I asked for the refund as we decided to cancel the order and go somwhere else) she literally thrown cash in front of me. My friend and I visited to get an evening meal on a Saturday following a rugby match. We arrived pretty early around 17:00. We both ordered the meat Pierogi (dumplings). We each received 8 with a lovely breadcrumb and onion garnish for a little over £5. These came with traditional Polish side salads. Drinks looked a bit expensive so we did not order any. These pierogi tasted fresh, were nicely filling and pushed all those comfortable home cooking buttons we look for on Cold winter's evenings.
I have never had any issues with this restaurant previously when it had different owners. However, since the ownership change, the quality of food and service has been terrible. My family, consisting of two adults and three kids, ordered our meals but only two of them arrived promptly. The rest of us had to wait an additional half hour for our food. Furthermore, the portion sizes were small for the price we paid, which was very disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.
This simple cafe offers up delicious and authentic Polish cuisine. My partner is Polish and has this down as serving up some of the nicest traditional Polish cuisine in London and at incredibly low prices. It's decor is super basic, so not a place to impress a date. But if you are after some lovely Polish food at a great price, this is your place.
It's nice to be able to sit down and have a decent-price tea/ coffee and cakes or lunch in Hammersmith. Everything nearby seems to be so expensive. The cakes are generally home-made, tasty and filling. The coffee, tea, beer and wines are about 33% less than you'd pay elsewhere and they'd give you 25% more. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
I love this coffee shop! It is much better than the big chains and offers the best cake in West London. The staff are always friendly and obliging and I am a very loyal repeat customer!
