It is unfortunate that my experience at this restaurant was marred by the addition of a discretionary 10% service charge without prior consent. The food was good, the beer was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was reasonable. However, it is disappointing to not be informed of an added charge before presented with the bill. I believe that if you want to pay your staff more, it should be factored into the prices. This practice of adding charges without consent is unfortunately becoming more common in the hospitality sector. I will not be recommending this village pub to others and will not be returning. Again, we had another great Christmas Gathering of friends in the festive decorated, middle restaurant with log fire. Our table was tastefully laid with candle displays and good crackers. As always, the food was delicious, beautifully presented ensuring complimentary remarks and no mutterings of complaint. We were given plenty of time to play our Santa Exchange Gift game before dessert. The Kentish Rifleman is certainly a place to consider for a large party (or small). We had a fabulous time, nothing was too much, we were not rushed, we were not left waiting. The team ensured we all had a great time to kick off the Christmas fortnight ahead. Thank you.
Amazing lunch, Saturday lunchtime and pub really busy with people enjoying a drink and eating. Lovely ambience, log fire. I'd made an error with the booking and reserved for two instead of four. They tried really hard to accommodate us, but understandably, all other tables were booked, so it just wasn't possible. Not their fault. It was entirely mine but the fact they tried meant a lot. The other two guests were absolutely fine and had a busy schedule anyway, so we will reconvene next week. We were lucky to stay, and all of the food was first class, homemade fare. Couldn't fault a thing. the service was amazing, and we had a lovely time. Thank you.
Met up with friends for a meal, lovely menu ,reasonably priced with good service, all a rarity in local places in recent times. Main courses were of Rifleman Steak Cod with Chorizo, desserts were Crème Brûlée, Sticky Toffee Ice cream, we finished our meals with good coffees and all agreed we had enjoyed the ambience, the service and the good food with reasonably priced drinks, what more could we ask? Will be returning again soon
From the moment we walked in it was welcoming and accommodating. We had finished our walk with the dog and we were all welcomed in. Even though we were a little early a table was found. Lovely atmosphere, very cosy and full of character we had a lovely time! The food was wholesome and a decent amount of- a proper home cooked meal! Excellent service throughout our visit and very good value. The best in a long while!
Second visit to this lovely pub/restaurant Very friendly staff,lovely typical country pub. Roaring log fire opposite large Xmas tree,we arrived at 12 noon,by 2pm it was packed .Local ales ,pie of the day was beef and horseradish ,delicious .tarte tatin for dessert. All reasonably priced .Lovely ,we will return
This restaurant is a great place for a proper pub experience with a lovely welcome, good beer, and delicious food. Unfortunately, it can be slightly spoiled by the pretentious, loud crowd from Sevenoaks in their Range Rovers who have recently discovered it - but that's just the nature of Bank Holidays.
Another great evening at the Tuesday “Pie A Pint” night. Delicious food. Equally delicious pint of Harvey’s and great service. Terrific value for money. Thank you Vicky Simon. The Kentish Rifleman is such a wonderful asset to our community
The food at this restaurant is amazing, the atmosphere is great, and the service is excellent. Make sure to try the Sunday roast, it is good value for money. The beautiful garden offers views of the fields.
