Konbi is a tiny walk-up window in Echo Park that offers coffee, pastries, and their famous Japanese style sandwiches among other things. Egg salad sandwich is Konbi's signature item. I tried it on a pretty chilly morning, maybe not the best day to eat a cold sandwich for breakfast, but I still enjoyed it. Three small rectangular sandwiches were meticulously packed in a cute little box, the white bread toast has a browned crust at the bottom, the egg salad is creamy, flavorful, and refreshing. This is a very special restaurant. The door is closed so you can't walk in. You need to interact with the staff via an intercom system. There is no menu where you order, but a menu will be published on the left of the wall where you need to leave your queue. If you pay, you will automatically calculate the Gratuity, but there are only 3 rrickety tables on the edge of the pedestrian zone next to the sunset blvd traffic. I ordered the pork katsu sando for $15. The bread it is only normal miracle bread, not the soft and fluffy way you find in Japan. The park katsu is juicy, but a bit too salty and fibrous. What I really mean is unfriendly for customers. For me, her Sando is not worth the price...
While the sandwiches are good, I felt that it was way too overpriced for the small portions and decent flavor. I've had better at japanese bakeries for less. $15 for a tonkatsu sandwich and $11 for an egg salad sandwich where typically katsu sandwichesare $5-7 at japanese bakeries. I was expecting more. Price point to taste to size was lacking.

Thought the egg sandwich was overhyped but I enjoyed the carrots and pastries. Especially the chocolate croissant; that was excellent. The service and employees were super nice as well.
I know people say it overhyped, but it's simple and tasty. The bread is fresh. I love the egg or the lobster sandwiches. I'm also trying to get a Canele. I have to try the next time.
The egg salad sandwich is very good and exactly what you would expect. The eggplant katsu and the lobster sandwiches are a bit too salty.
