From an American's point of view, when I think diner, I think roadside dive with dated exterior and signage that looks like it's about to fall over. So to my surprise, finding a diner-esque establishment in a strip center was surprising. But once I stepped foot inside, I was transported to any diner I'd find in the states...from the checkered floor to retro table designs to the signs hanging on the wall. Loved it! And the food is amazing. They have the best home fries I've had in a long time. Prices are reasonable and yes, as my Canadian fiance said, they serve American sized portions. Breakfast is my favorite meal and they nailed it!
So, here's the thing: I am quite the breakfast connoisseur. I take it quite seriously. Kotsy's managed to meet and exceed my breakfast expectations. Everything was done just right. The price was pretty good for all the food you got. I (and everyone at my table) ordered the big breakfast and it all barely fit on our table. Everyone was satisfied and had lots to take home. Our server was great! However, the same can't be said for all servers there. But ours (Marina, I believe)? was wonderful.Would definitely head back there when I'm in the area again.
Kotsy's sits on a nondescript stip plaza on the North East corner of Highway 7 and Keele Street intersection in Vaughan, Ontario. You would not notice it unless for the bright. blue sign. Once you go in though, it's a very different experience. They offer a great breakfast with friendly service. What you get for the small fare you pay is unbelievably good. They are open daily from morning till 4.00 p.m On special days like Mother's day, it would be very busy and you might have to line up so it's advisable to make a reservation beforehand.
I went with a group of friends and we all ordered. They initially forgot about my order as everybody else's food came out and mine didn't. When I told the waitress, she put an order in quickly and brought the food out shortly afterwards. This is just like your local greasy spoon that any town has (Wimpy's, Flashback Diner). But working in the hwy 7 and 407 area and you want breakfast for lunch? It's a good place to go. The few times I've been, the service was friendly, food was good and hot, and moderately priced.Their home fries are delicious!
Picked up some breakfast here a little while back. It's a 50's diner inspired restaurant complete with barstools and paraphernalia. My breakfast was pretty tasty and made fresh, right in front of me. For the price, I think it's pretty good. It's breakfast, can't go wrong.
All day breakfast in a diner atmosphere. Great selection, big size servings, tasty food, fast and very friendly and efficient service. Nice surprise. Will be back for sure.
