It was rather by chance that we stopped by the Küchenhof after a visit to the Altenberg fairytale forest. The modern restaurant is in a picturesque location next to Altenberg Cathedral. Apart from a grumpy greeting from a member of staff at the counter, we were served in a friendly manner. However, we had to wait almost an hour for a Viennese schnitzel with fried potatoes €28), a Bergisch trout with parsley potatoes €28) and braised suckling pig cheeks with potato-mustard puree €24), which I found it unreasonably long given the half-empty courtyard. Very tasty Bergisch waffles and the cheesecake is also recommended. During a visit in the spring we had veal schnitzel during a hiking break which was fantastic. Current map is very attractive. Dieser Ort war früher wirklich gut, als er eröffnet wurde. Nach und nach mussten wir beobachten, wie die Qualität nachgelassen hat. Jetzt ist sie völlig abgerutscht. Wir hatten so hohe Erwartungen, da es in der Nachbarschaft nur wenige anständige Restaurants gibt. Zu Beginn haben wir tatsächlich die Besitzerin getroffen. Sie hatte große Pläne und zeigte uns stolz das Restaurant. Das Restaurant ist wunderschön gelegen und hat eine moderne, gemütliche Atmosphäre. Wir waren am Abend dort und das Restaurant war bis zum letzten Platz gefüllt. Eine Reservierung wird daher dringend empfohlen. Wir wählten ein Gänsegericht, das sehr schmackhaft war. Das Fleisch war wunderbar zart. Das Wiener Schnitzel war ebenfalls gut. Unfortunately, after half an hour we still hadn't been served; neither with drinks nor with a menu. Afterwards you were spoken to angrily about leaving the location. Really cozy courtyard, the waffle was really tasty, but something needs to change in the service. Everyone was nice, but there seemed to be a lack of staff, we had to wait 40 minutes to pay and that was only because I ran after a waiter to draw his attention to it. We stayed at the Altenbergerhof for two days and also had dinner in the Küchenhof for two days. The food was excellent and you could see the love for the product, for example in the great sauce for the suckling pig cheeks. All in all, highly recommended.
