Everything about this restaurant is wonderful. The food was amazing, beautifuly spiced without being overdone. I had the eggplant salad (divine!), perfectly marinated chicken kebabs, and a lovely green sald with sunflower seeds and a tart dressing. Yum. My friends had the lamb tagine and it was beautifuly prepared and seasoned, arrived at the table piping hot with homemade pita. I was lucky enough to have a taste, and next time that is what I will order (with the eggplant, of course). The desserts were equally fabulous. Lovely sorbets with Mediterranean flavorings, unusual but very tasty and refreshing. All the sorbets were served with a small pastry--one a crunchy version of a sugar cookie,...
We stayed near Perpignan old town but decided to visit this restaurant on the basis of previous reviews and were very pleased we did. It took only 20 minutes to reach and is in a very pleasant, calm residential area. It feels exactly like a good family run resto should - that you are in someone's home. The menu is small but with a good choice of dishes - we ate chicken barboute- chicken in coriander and other spices in a home made bread pocket served with salad. We are staying at an Airbnb apartment in Perpignan and just went here because it was close by and we were tired from travel. We never would have expected to experience what has been one of the most deliciuous, delightful and unusual dinners of our trip, so far one week in Provence. Jordy and his wife Zahra make unique dishes based on authenitic Moroccan cuisine, making their own bread, even importing spices from Morocco. The service was great and the bill was far lower than made any sense considering the quality of the meal. The restuarant is small, modern, and super clean. It is located in a quiet neighborhood near,but not in the center of Perpignan,so best to let GPS or Google direct you....
We discovered La Berbère last summer shortly after it opened and returned this year while we were in Perpignan. The tagines are authentic and delicious, the salads seasoned with spices that make them a real treat, and the sorbets for dessert are quite original and homemade The owners are charming and make their customers feel completely at home. This is really a gem of a restaurant, where outstanding cooking can be enjoyed for an extremely reasonable price.
