We had a wonderful meal there. They specialize in seafood, especially raw oysters, which neither of us appreciate. But that's not all they do.My wife had a fish soup which she pronounced transcendent. Then she had a slice of Plaice (a white fleshed fish) on a bed of leeks with roasted potatoes and an herbed cream sauce. Lovely. Most of the restaurants in the not-so-tourist spot seemed to be closed on Sunday evening. This place opens everyday of the week. It is right off the main road and not far from the hotel, so we decided to give it a try. Other people perhaps had the similar situation. The restaurant were soon packed. It operated quite efficiently, and the server brought out food from the kitchen at a relatively faster pace (than the normal slow pace in most French restaurant). Among the food we had, the foie gras - though seemed to have came out of a can - was smooth and tasty. The steamed cod was flavorful and fluffy. I don't normally review restaurants as I figure there's an abundance to choose from in most locations. However, Le Chope is a stand out and deserves a recommendation. Reception staff at Hotel Kyriad just down the road suggested this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Although the staff had limited English they provide menus in English, except their specials but a bit of googling to translate and you are set. There are options for 2 and 3 courses for 20 and 26.50 Euros respectively. There is also a la carte. We chose the 3 course menu and enjoyed one of the best and cheapest meals we have had on a trip that has covered 5 European countries. Very friendly staff and lovely, casual yet intima...
We were visiting the chateaux in the Loire valley and were based in Tours. Several of our party had been to La Chope so we decided to give it a try on our last night. Everyone we spoke to raved about it and we were not disappointed. The place was spotless, the service was excellent, the food beautifully prepared with excellent ingredients - what's not to like. Even better, they had kidneys on the menu - one of my favourites - so I was a happy bunny.This restaurant was established in 1902 and this says it all - it has lasted through thick and thin because it offers fab food at an affordable price - do go next time you're in Tours.

We booked at the La Chope with the recommendation from the Tourism Bureau for its reputation in seafood and also being opened on Sunday. However our experience was below our expectation. The price of the seafood was higher than the best seafood restaurant in Paris like La Dome. The freshness of the seafood was acceptable however the servicing part fell below our expectation. With the place less than half full but the waiters had difficulty in providing the proper service.
Fell upon this place naer our hotel because we were too tired to walk back to the Old Town, and sure glad we did. Very good quality food , and very friendly and classy service. Best steak tartare that I have had in a long time. My spouse's magret de canard was also wonderful, and the crab & avocado appetizer. One of our memorable meals ine the first week of our 3-week vacation in France. You don't have to be in Paris to eat well!
Went there on the recommendation of the hotel. The food was great, the service excellent and we had a great meal. Would definitely recommend it again. All the dishes were good and the wines were very nice and reasonable.
On our way back to hotel we passed this restaurant. Looked at the menu and decided to try it. We were both exhausted but let me tell you the oisters, foie gras and the fish in bouillabaise omg. Delicious.
