I visited La Chouette in Les Menuires based on recommendation of my friends, visiting this restaurant before. I have to admit, that my request was not quite standard - asking for local food, but no fondue, raclette, tartiflette, as I had problem to digest it in Switzerland (Gstaad) before. I would have expected some light meals like the duck/ deers / boars with berries, mushrooms, or similar - finally I got recommendation for steak with foie gras sauce (typicall Savoyean one). They don 't do the standard burgers and pizzas that most ski places do but can still mainline you all the fat, carbs and protein you need with their wide selection of excellent dishes and crepes. Excellent service and excellent food, one of the better places in Bruyeres. I had assumed that the name of the restaurant comes from the French word for owl but that is only half true. It is actually named after Napoleon 's horse 'Chouette ' which passed away in May 1800 when Napoleon was crossing the alps and was buried under what is now the Bruyeres lift. Josephine 's nick name for it was La Chouette, because the horse had insomnia.
We when to this place as a group of 12. They did not bat an eye lid, just re-arranged some tables and down we sat. Service and food excellent. The house wine by 250 or 500 cl was good value and flavour. Lamb chops were good but you need to ask for well done if you do not want pink. I had a good La Chouette (owl) steak one night but it was the most expensive thing on the menu. They also do a good fish platter as well as fondue.
Very nice meal, service was very friendly and attentive, French and English spoken. Pleasant lively room, very nice. The food was also served very quickly. Crepes were great. We could see how thorough they were when cleaning all the tables at the end of the day.

We went back to this place partly for the dessert called a leigois which we had in the coffee flavor. The duck and lamb are very good. It's a bit slow on the service end but if you aren't in any rush it's fine. Very convenient for those in the Bruyeres area.
Catered for 19 people really efficiently. Some of us popped back for lunch the next day as well. Varied menu, lots of choice which was ideal for a large group. Food presented attractively and the service was splendid. Good area for eating outside too.
We visited twice during our ski week. The pancakes are truly delicious and a change from other restaurants. I would have liked to try all on the menu! The manager and staff are very friendly and helpful.
we had 3 dinners in this restaurant partly because there are few options in Les Bruyeres, but also because this is one of the good restaurants in place. Good Service and nice Staff.

Sit at the bottom of slopes, inside or out, and watch the world go by. Food is good value and portion sizes match. Staff very friendly and helpful if you're not sure
Good value and extensive menu for a major ski resort. Great Crêpes and salads. They also cater for Children.
