I have been to La Folie a couple of times and always had a good meal. The last night of April was cool and so we sat inside which wasn't as pleasant as sitting out in the fresh warm night air as per my last visits. However the welcome was warm and the food was good. I chose a burger simply because my last burger at at Dom Paddy in Uppingham was such a disappointment. I wasn't disappointed at La Folie, it was cooked to perfection and tasted great. The accompanying salad was a lovely mixed salad with beets and an excellent dressing. The chips although they looked a little over cooked tasted like chips should and I noticed one or two dissapearing onto my friends plates. A super meal for me that...
Visited on a cold February night expecting no other customers, but there were even families with young children present. Being winter they offer flammekueche as starter or main, which we had as a starter along with feuilletée (puff pastry case) of snails in cream sauce, followed by choucroute Royale and an Alsatian dish we have never heard of and I cannot recall the name of, but is beef slow cooked in pot-au-feu, shredded, rolled in pasty like a Swiss roll then re-cooked in juice with vegetables: it was excellent but like the choucroute very filling. dinner with two children. excellent in any point: service at the top, excellent meal with lots of home things brought back from the Lorraine (and we are the sponsor. everything is done at home and it feels in the plate. garlic mussels, hamburgers, excellent fish net. and to finish a nice gourmet coffee made at home, which changes in comparison with other places where we are used for industrial desserts. The chief is buying daily fresh products from the local port, fishermen and vegtables from local market. Everything is done daily or at the order. Here there is no need to ask the chief which products are frozen, there is simply none, from seafood to french fries. We have friends living in the area and they took us to this restaurant. Admittedly, we had just hiked for 2 hours and I was really hungry at the time but nonetheless, the house burger with foie gras was one of the best burgers I've had in my life. There's also a nice little story in the start of the menu about the restaurant but it's only in French. If you're close by and looking for a nice meal, this place is worth a try.
we returned to this restaurant 3 times since the reopening of restaurants. as much as we appreciate the good dishes and fries houses. The boss always friendly loves to see his clients feast. to be noted, reasonable prices and accepts the anv. we will return.
