I decided to try La Mars's restaurant in Pontiac on a whim. Even though the restaurant was nearly empty, I was glad we took a chance. It was clear that they have a strong takeout business and are popular with locals. The atmosphere is typical of an American strip mall Mediterranean restaurant - bright and clean. The service was quick and the food was excellent. The fried kibbee appetizer was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. The Shish Tawook and Chicken Ghallabah dishes were both full of amazing flavors. I highly recommend trying this place out, even if it looks empty. Very good food. Excellent bread and hummus. Bread was served warm...even when I asked to take a few pieces home. I loved my chicken tawook and fatoush..we usually order in but this time ate there. Service was quick and with the 6 of us...he never had to write it down. Our orders were all correct! Food was very good and portions nicely sized for a lunch menu. Still, prices were a tad high. Lunch was $43 for two people. Restaurant feels more like a diner, but that's fine for lunch. The restaurant has clearly undergone a change in management in the last year as the food has significantly improved. The staff were kind and the lamb kabobs were excellent. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all as a 5 out of 5.

The chicken and meat dishes on the menu can be overcooked and dry at times. The food is decent, but there are better options nearby.
