One of the WORST! I'll start with thanking Hector and the staff who worked upstairs for the last ~1.5 weeks with a malfunctioning air conditioner. Fix this as nobody should be working in that environment...let alone dining. It was unbearable but the team did the best in a poor environment and with a horrible manager. Second, we messaged (via Open Table) that it was our 25th Anniversary and they “graciously” sat us at a table outside the kitchen door at the top of the stairs...horrible...never once offering best wishes of any sort. Though it was our first time to this highly acclaimed restaurant it will not be our last. Many friends have recommended La Masseria, but we have never managed to get there until last night. We had a reservation for two but opted to sit at the bar, which is first come first served. From the initial entry to every course served, the hospitality and professionalism was exceptional. The bartenders demonstrated superior mixology skills the best Gimlet ever...– and equal awareness to hosting guests. I was struck by enjoying fine dining in a genuinely relaxed atmosphere...a very Sunday dinner feeling. Oh...the food! The menu has great options for meat, fish and veggie lovers. The artichoke/avocado...
I don't understand the people who write bad reviews routinely out of spite which I think has been the case here with this restaurant. Our experience was outstanding. The food was terrific and the menu offered varied and unusual choices. So it wasn't your typical generic Italian restaurant experience which is so common in a state that has Italian restaurants on practically every street corner. It is often difficult to discover the truly great Italian restaurants around here that offer fresh ingredients, varied menu offerings which reflect different Italian regions with a healthy dolop of imagination.
Horrible for the second time. Will not go back. Server inattentive at best. Rushed and basically incompetent. No checking in for an hour. Didn’t replenish water. We all sat down by 6:37 for our 6:30 reservation. 2 of us ordered salads. These came out right away. Then….Our meals came at 8:25!!!! No apology. No explanation. Rude! Prices are ridiculously high. Margaritas 18.00 each!! Glass of house wine 16.00. Risotto 33.50. We make much better at home. Bland. Artichoke salad 24!! Went to dinner for the first time before a show. Ordered the aged rib eye $60+ and a special risotto. Ordered MR and got a well done steak that was mealy and dry couldn’t eat it with flavorless brussel sprouts as well as the special risotto with smoked salmon. The risotto was more like a wet sautéed pile of rice with a sprinkle of smoked salmon. This was absolutely NOT how grandma would make risotto. The server didn’t check back with us after our food arrived until it was time for dessert or a check. He saw our very full plates and did not look concerned in the least.
Our experience was amazing after the hostess. We showed up on time to our reservation and were promptly told by the hostesses that we would have to wait 20 minutes despite having a reservation though we could see many open tables because, as the hostess put it, “they were reserved”. After that our waiter and food were great!
The food was really disappointing, especially for the price. We ordered the rib eye $60+ MR and it came out well done and mealy. Also ordered a special risotto which honestly was not made correctly. It came out looking more like a pile of wet rice with a sprinkling of smoked salmon.
The salmon could have used a little more spice but everything else was fantastic. I am usually 100% happy with my meals here so this was a one off. Great service from beginning to end! Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
