Although I can't stand the dividing partitions at the bar, the food at La Merenda is fantastic. Sarah took care of us, and her recommendations were right on. The menu covers the world, with dishes representing countries proud of their culinary traditions. We loved the Pistachio salad, Butter Chicken, the Sambal Goreng Udang, whose coconut milk mashed potatoes were orgasmic. Pricing was more than reasonable. Get rid of those partitions, and I'll be there every week. After living in Seattle, I don't need to be frozen out from humanity any more. Three years were enough. We all need to get closer. Tribalism isn't healthy.

Highly recommend every entree, our party of four tried at least eight different dishes and the first was as wonderful as the last one. The Tres Leches Cake was also wonderful, it literally melted in your mouth.

I want to like this place but you can't customize your order because everything is "pre-made". For someone that hates onions and is vegetarian that basically narrowed the menu down to two things that weren't anything special. I gave it a couple tries but the last visit being told nothing could be changed did it for me.
From the outside it doesn't look much but inside it's a warm friendly sort of place. What really stands out is the great food - superb tapas all around washed down with some great Hefeweizen. Perhaps the service could come with a smile instead of a frown but otherwise worth a visit.
