the location for this restaurant in the west of la baule and before they come in batz sur mer is fantastic: with view of the sea. it is located in a beautiful old house, but the interior is a bit much. they have tried too hard to be trendy...and it just turns out to be over the top (not to visit marilyn monroe bathroom! Liberace style. eating is beautifully presented, but also quite expensive over 30 euros/person for lunch. However, that said it was a delicious meal when they are willing to pay so much for putting in to lunch. I don't know how expensive the dinner is. my mousse au chocolat was much too chocolate, but otherwise I enjoyed every dish.
We stopped here on our drive to see the salt beds of Guerande. We ordered the E29 menu, we had for an appetiser ,delicious marinated fresh salmon pieces with cucumbers and ginger with a radish sauce, which was divine, then we had the chef's recommendation...for the fish of the day which was a fillet of white fish in a yummy sauce. For dessert we had Chocolate and vanilla ice cream and a Chocolate moussse cake which was very rich.
After visiting Le Grand Blockhaus and wanting lunch we found La Roche Mathieu a short distance away, right on the coast with excellent sea views. Unfortunately it was too breezy to eat outside but we were given a good window seat. Although not particularly busy...the service was on the slow side, but the food was quite good.
very nice restaurant, beautiful decor and very friendly staff. large selection of food, very elaborate menu, and aromen that are exceptional. the food is worth the price, with fresh ingredients and much thought in every detail. we are coming back in a perfect way. after a walk on the beach or after visiting the museum.
