Set away from the hustle and bustle of nearby St Tropez and just down from the the picturesque hilltop village of Gassin, with its numerous restaurants set adjacent together on a lovely terrace but without the seclusion and ambience La Verdotante offers. The terrace at the rear of the this vineyard house will truly blow you away. I notice in the reviews that few talk about the owner and his wife. So for the record Laurent is the chef. He is the most understated and modest man. Utterly charming with a good sense of humour. Does not behave like a celebrity chef despite the fact that other Michelin star chefs choose to eat at La Verdoyante on their holidays!Berenice his beautiful young wife is front of house and adored by customers far and wide. Our friend took us to this restaurant as a special treat. She has a house in the region and also has a refined palate. First of all, the view from the outside terrace, where everyone sat this evening, was breathtaking. A view over rolling hills and vineyards until you view the bay. The trees near the terrace are beautiful as well. We watched the sunset and the moon rise. Then the food. I had the best fish soup, mashed potatoes and chocolate dessert of my life. And I have had some good competition for those dishes. My dinner companions also raved about their dishes. The service was impeccable. A truly memorable dinner and evening.
Eating from the terrace, the view is spectacular. Sweeping vineyards and an expanse of countryside which opens up before you. There are various menus to choose from and we found the prices during lunch time not to be too oppressive. The quality is everything you would expect for such an up market establisment. Very subtle hints within the cooking, the taste is never boring. The service was excellent and particularly attentive. The food is local and very well prepared. A fantastic ability to prepare vegetables and well done fish dishes!Elegant without being too much, the place and service is pleasant and friendly.A wonderful terrasse with view upon golf de Saint Tropez and wine plantage create a peaceful atmosphere.The best restaurant in the area as I know.
Had eaten here in the past and had raved about both food and view. I booked several weeks in advance to ensure a table. View still as good but the meal we had was really quite unimaginative and frankly below average. Busy as ever, are they sitting on their laurels.
We enjoyed a wonderful evening at La Verdoyante, we were greeted with warmth and friendly smiles and service. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, top class food in a beautiful setting over the vineyards, highly recommend this gem of a restaurant!
