Having arrived at MSM at about 10 a.m., we hoped to find a good place to grab some brunch. We didn't walk too far up the main street before we found this hotel/restaurant. Just opening, they weren't busy, and we took a couple of good seats out on the terrace. It took a while for the server to come to our table, but he was pleasant and worked with out limited English. Fortunately, it didn't require much. We were intent on having crepes, and the toppings were easily made out. My companion enjoyed Nutella on his; I went for butter and sugar. With a glass of white wine, this was a lovely brunch. Yes, I could've eaten 3 or 4 more of them - the best I had while in France. The restaurant was clean...
We should have read the reviews before we sit in this restaurant. But Mont Saint Michel does not offer many restaurants. I must be honest and say the oysters were fresh and French onions were delicious. We also tried the fish and chips to break the traditional steak and pommes and it was delicious. However, the service is very slow and they do not seem to like to serve, not speaking French and Americans. Our waiter ignored us and served other tables that came after us. About 5/6 table until I called him for a menu. All the others got a menu, but we did. I also wonder if it had something more to do with our sexual orientation. Anyway, def no place I would recommend.
We called in here for drinks during a day out to Mont St Michel. We were greeted by an Oriental man behind the bar who asked if we wanted drinks or to eat. We replied drinks, then sat for 15 minutes with several waiters/waitresses buzzing round. I eventually asked a waiter to take my order, who replied that he couldn't. Ten minutes later (sat there for 25 mins at this point) a waitress came and took our order. The drinks sat on the bar for a good 5 minutes even after being poured, as the waitress cleaned tables. When they did arrive she wanted the payment straightaway. We had 2 x 50cl of Heineken. It cost €18! Poor service, over-hiked prices! Don't go there!!!
June 22, 2017La Vieille Auberge: La Vieille Absolutely Awful Service and Disregard for Guests. We visited this restaurant hoping to have a nice lunch of moules (mussels). After waiting patiently for 50 minutes from the moment we placed the order, we asked our waitress about our order. She came back saying there was an error (?) and our order had not been placed. We would have had to wait at least 30 more minutes.The French couple next to us consoled us by advising us Mont St Michel restaurants are well know for their bad service. I wished I didn't have to write such review. I wished there weren't restaurants like these in such frequented places.I get really angry with such establishments and their bad business practices. The food is awful. Service is as bad as the food. Terrible wine. Coffee is the worst!Don't be fooled. That place is not France. Not real French food. They are discrediting French cuisine. Shame on them!
The view is very nice, but the service was impressively slow and abrasive. To describe food as a mediocrity would be generous. You know, and clearly don't care, but also not the customers, if any precaution check is consistently terrible. It would be polite if they at least corrected the bill when they served the wrong dish, but paid for the original.
No big expectations in this restaurant, we wanted mussels and they had them on the menu. Service was good, although the waitress saw something depressed, quality is ok, all in all, not too bad. Nothing impressive and the whole place is definitely made... for tourists you may not see coming for decades anymore.
