To Steve, owner of La Vieille Europe. A great big thank you for the assistance and the sympathy, kindness and generosity you extended to when I came into your store earlier today desperately looking for German Xmas specialties which had sold out near my home and somewhat emotional after telling you my mom had recently passed away and how I wanted to continue the Christmas tradition she passed on to her children years ago and continued to share with us all these years later. Walking into your store brightened up my day
I regularly go to Old Europe. The staff are very welcoming and it is impossible not to make new discoveries. An incredible choice of cheeses and cold meats, olive oils, balsamic and other vinegars, coffee, tea, there are also different kinds of pepper and salt, fine chocolates, jams and so on. .I can stay there for a really long time discovering all they have and if you fancy a sandwich on the go they are excellent.
I have known this grocery store for at least 20 years. It is still the best on bd Saint-Leurent. The variety of cheeses from around the world (including the excellent Quebecois made from raw milk) and the charcuterie (including the smoked meat) are always the best on the Plateau Mont-Royal. Take the detour.
I first discovered this restaurant back in the 1990s when I was an exchange student in Montreal and it quickly became my go-to spot for European dishes. Always fresh products; courteous service; a variety of options. You can find everything you need for authentic European dishes. A preferred spot for those looking to gift a foodie with a gift basket.
The café is excellent, with a great selection of products, reasonable prices, and a super friendly staff. My only criticism is that the products are over-packaged, especially the cheeses!
I could spend the hole day in that store discovering all there wonderfull products and amasing choices of cheese. Try a short expresso before u start shopping, its fabulous !!!
