Pleasant little restaurant tucked away in the back of Canberra. Now there had been much hype leading up to this particular culinary expedition and after reading some reviews my expectations were extremely high; had i not had such high expectations I probably would have awarded a 4. The atmosphere was that of a nice Chinese restaurant and almost understated. The food, we chose the banquet was sufficient and satisfying and was a mixed bag of outstanding entrée's (the kingfish and ginger was amazing) average to great mains (the pork belly was chewy and no crunchy top) ending with outstanding deserts (the island bliss was incredible). The service was outstanding with all wait staff prepared...
Located in Campbell, this intimate restaurant was awarded one hat in the 2013 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide – and it deserves it. Darkly wooden partitions and gauzy curtains make for little alcoves for private dining sessions; perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or a quiet catch up with friends. On the night we attended, it happened to be a special 9-course degustation menu in celebration of the head chef’s final days. With M’s lactose-intolerance, set menus are usually a little difficult to navigate, but the fantastic waitstaff at Lanterne Rooms managed it with flying colours, offering splendid alternatives and making sure all items were lactose-free....
Have been to Lanterne Rooms a few times and have always loved the variety available. However this last visit was a little disappointing. Most of the food was really lovely but the beef dish was pretty tasteless. In fact it was a bit weird when our group all commented that the beans served were tastier than the meat. Also, serving rice pudding as dessert for a $92 per head fixed menu seemed a little cheap, considering the variety of interesting desserts that come from Malaysia/Singapore etc. The bit of kiwi fruit at the bottom didn't add much to the dish. The service was exceptional as always, with a great wine list.
This restaurant is above average for Canberra but could be so much better ... they should either cook authentic Malay food or say that it’s a fusion event. Also, table service needs to be sharper be seen to be grateful for your customers ... That said, the duck was excellent as was the overall menu curry and chicken tandoori were both average. Good wine list.

Food, service, atmosphere, ticks for all can not fault this place. We enjoyed the tasting menu, everything was well balance and the meals flowed well. Some interesting combinations but surprisingly worked a treat! Will be back for sure!
The food was delicious and really good value for money. The staff were very friendly and the service was fast. We can definitely recommend this restaurant and would love to come back.

The Lanterne Rooms is by far Canberra's best restaurant. Absolutely delicious food, a good drinks selection, a delightful ambience and absolutely impeccable service.

I have been coming to the Lanterne Rooms for at least ten years and it's my favourite Canberra restaurant. The food is magnificent and the service excellent.
Exceptional food and service to match, there was plenty of food to go around. Location was a little tricky to find and park but worth the effort.
