I stumbled on the Place Philippe le Bon whilst wandering, enjoying the local architecture and the good weather. The square hasn't been gentrified and l was able to sit outside in the tree-lined boulevard. The greet from the young waiter was warm and friendly so l sat and ate there, in preference to the other restaurants in the square. I took the 19 euro lunch - tian of aubergine, followed by beef flamande and an ice cream, with a quarter litre of red and a large basket of local bread included in the price. I sat for a long time, watching the world go by, happy that it was still possible to have a good home cooked meal in France.
Wandering around Palais des Beaux Arts on a Sunday trying to find somewhere to eat. Almost all restaurants seemed to be closed. Except L'Avant Scene, which we stumbled upon by accident. Hungry and fed up with looking for somewhere to eat, we ventured in. What a find! The set daily menu was very good value. Main course was crab and avocado souflé. Yum Yum. The others in my group were also very happy with their food. Excellent house wine in a carafe. Better value than wine by the glass. I will go there again on my next visit to Lille.
If you go for the Menu du Jour (day menu), you can get a main, a dessert and a drink (including a glass of wine) for 14€. A bargain really. And the food is definitely good, even if you might not get something fancy.If you are ready to put a tiny bit more and go for the a la carte menu, there are some nice regional dishes, really tasty.Overall, that's a great place to go to.
Went to this restaurant with friends when in France for Euro 2016 and had a nice meal.Three of us went for steak and chips with peppered sauce and thought it was tasty although the steak was a little rarer than you would expect to get in the UK or Ireland. The service was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly, would recommend.
