This is a place where the world's greatest 20th century artists used to meet, have a drink and play jeu de boules. People like Picasso, Chagall, Léger, Giacometti and Matisse all drank and (probably) ate here... It still has has the atmosphere of the 20's. Sun, trees, people having a glass of wine or an espresso. The drinks are of excellent quality, but the food tastes like it was made in the 1920's and being served now. But never mind...it's the mellow mood and not the questionable food that counts here, hence my 4 stars.....

We were exhausted after walking half a mile up a hill to get to this small village and just wanted somewhere to have a light lunch and rest. Le Café de la Place is at the entrance to the walled village. It offered a nice outdoor setting or you could eat inside. Since is was such a lovely day, we opted to eat outdoors. The panini was very good. The salad was even better. We enjoyed the service and the food. Would recommend it for a light lunch before tackling the walled village.

We've visited St. Paul many times over the years, and often enjoyed a drink, or lunch at the Cafe de la Place. Great location, to watch the world go by but our last visit was a massive disappointment; our lunch was awful. Over cooked, and tasteless. They seem to be coasting along living off the tourist trade; far better lunch time options inside the walled village.

After visiting St Paul de Vence we stopped here for lunch. Lovely looking building in a nice setting. It was very busy but the service was very good. Comfortable seating. We had two reasonably priced Plat du Jour, some dessert and coffee. Large portions on each occasion. A great spot to watch people coming and going and enjoying themselves. Stopped here something to eat, told there was no food although there were menus on the tables. The waiter really didn't seem as though he wanted to be here. Gave it one more go on another evening, same waiter and guess what no food. Positives, watching the locals playing boules outside the cafe. Toilets were horrible.

I don't understand such unfavourable opinions! we ate this noon and quite satisfied, good waiter, dish of the day at 12.50€ simple but good and served as at home, quick service. we feel good, the terrace is pleasant. Obviously, at this price, we will not use caviar.

Watching boule, having a quick sandwich before entering the village. Ok place, clean bathroom. When inside the village we discovered lovely cafés where we could have had a little more atmosphere while lunching.
