After walking from the Pont Neuf and filling our shopping bags with fresh vegetables and fruit from the Marché Aigle, we dropped into Le Charolais for lunch. We were lucky as the chilly outside quickly became standing room only -- mostly fresh oysters and white wine being consumed -- and the inside packed. We chose a tiny table near the door. The ceiling adorned with rugby balls, this classic neighbourhood bistrot was full of character: busy, loud, crowded and full of Sunday morning joy. I was staying with friends in the area and this is their local. The 'sports' bar atmosphere invites loads of friendly banter but what is really great about this little place is that all the people who work and eat/drink here are real Parisians but who are also very welcoming. Just remember, when in Paris [read France] always say hello [bonjour] and you are automatically greeted as a friend. I had so many wonderful moments here - the people, the atmosphere and the food. My last night in Paris I was treated like royalty by everyone with special extras etc and felt real sorrow at leaving. This is everyone's idea of 'how to live like a native' in Paris. Friendly welcome in this bar/bistro right on the edge of the market, just round the corner from Le Baron Rouge. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the quality of the food impressed. We had a late mixed platter on our first evening in The Bastille with a side order of beautiful frites and du vin which hit the mark perfectly.We enjoyed the ambience so much we ended up here again on our last night for some traditional French hospitality, snails and cheesy stretchy potato speciality Ailgot! The staff were all smiley and friendly and patiently helped us with our pathetic efforts at speaking French. The wine was good too.Recommended!
Were looking for a different restaurant but ended up here by mistake. Good mistake as this turned out to be a great little hole in the wall with a most pleasant waitress and surprisingly good food. We shared a meat and cheese board with a bottle of Chinon and sparkling water. The meats and cheeses were very fresh having come from the Marche Aigle across the street. Definitely a local place as we were the only Americans. Very reasonable price.

We had a lovely evening with our 3 boys (4, 8 & 10 years old) out on the terrace of this wonderfull place. Oysters for a starter, great main course, a good bottle of Rosé and an affordable kids menu which our boys liked a lot... A coffee with vieilles prunes recommended by the owner and an additional glass of red wine ended a perfect evening! The owner even brought our boys some toy gifts.Next time we are in Paris, we will be back!!
I literally stumbled across this little bar having just visited Le Baron Rouge, but too late for food. Small traditional type bar, but a good selection of wine (even if they didn't have any more of the one I chose) and a great platter of hams and sausage. Some of the other food looked really nice, definitely a place to visit again.
Delightfully, this was just as it looked, peering in the window. Paper on the tables, small range of wines to suit, cote de boef, or a charolais steak, or specials, or Bavette d'Aloyau. Appears to be a mainstay of local people and the marché d'Aligre? Exciting old-style French squatting toilet which was super-clean.
A pot luck, the Charolais is like at home, cool service and traditional dishes, garlic sausage, sides with fabulous bone and aligot ... homemade dessert and a good selection of wines by the glass ! All for a super nice price, in short, an ideal version canteen .

Good charcuterie with fresh bread and butter Decent côte de boeuf for two with an excellent aligot and greens. We had a bottle of Brouilly which is generally a good bet with grilled meat, but this one wasn't so interesting.
This bar was suggested as a good place for cheap snacks... but we had poor service and food that was far from tasty or fresh. We left as soon as we could, given the overall bad taste it left us.
