The Le Français cafe happened to be well located in the center of Castelnaudery. So it was an obvious choice for my family and I as we waited to board our canal boat for a week long trip. It always blows my mind when an out of the way place like this, that obviously relies heavily on tourism for income, treats those tourists like they are nothing but an annoyance. The sad part is that we really just want to see your beautiful country and enjoy the excellent food. My whole family and I happen to all be bilingual and spoke three different languages amongst us. Unfortunately none was French. Although we did or best with what we knew. They actually asked us if we were English. Which we were not....
We dropped in to this establishment and at first felt totally ignored and then found out that English was not really catered for. Having sat for a while we decided to stay and in the end we got our orders taken and when our meals arrived, they were good. The food was tasty and in the end the manager even tried to make some small-talk and we left there with the distinct feeling that we have made a connection.The prices were good and the food well worth the wait.

For some unknown reason we were told we had to eat inside, but luckily the front was folding doors, so my friends sat inside looking out whilst I sat outside looking in.Menu du Jour, choosing Ham; melon & lettuce starter. Main chose Toulouse sausage & chips whilst desert was the most delicious giant homemade chocolate mousse.Plus usual tincture of red wine.Very nice.
