We hadn't planned to visit Angoulême but finding ourselves here at lunchtime we called into Le Pistou. It's several years since we last ate here (it was good then) and we had a great lunch today in the sunshine. Excellent, friendly service and quality food for a good price. We selected from the menu du jour and our entrees were delicious and beautifully presented (tomato and mozzarella salad; melon, jambon cru, gaspacho) followed by our mains (a fish and Saint jaques cocotte with rice; chicken breast with sauté potatoes). I can not comment on the food as we left before having chance to order due to the outrageous attitude of the waitress. When arriving my partner and I sat at a 4 seat table well away from others in a quiet area with plenty of available tables with our 10 month old daughter. We were immediately told to move to a small 2 seat table next to a couple smoking heavily!! When we asked if we could stay where we were because of the smoke and a baby we were rather aggressively told no.......! Maybe it's because we were talking English, but I have never experienced anything like that anywhere else in the world. Sadly we left the town, following a lovely weekend, with a very bitter taste in our mouths.
We were looking for a decently priced meal and wanted something simple. We looked at Le Pistou but the waitress said it was full, but she could reserve a table for us if we wanted to come back in 15 minutes. I am pleased we waited. The Pizza was excellent but the best thing was the beef Carpaccio, i have never had one so tender and the meat just melted in my mouth. The service was excellent and this little place far exceeded our expectations of just being a simple Pizzeria. I would definitely recommend
Waitress had a serious attitude problem, we tried to order pizza and salad to share, but this wasn't possible. So instead of telling us it wasn't possible, she just walked off. 10 minutes later we're still sitting there wondering why we haven't even had drinks, so we go in and speak to the owner, who said that we hadn't placed an order because we didn't understand. But instead of telling us, they left us sitting at a table with no idea there was a problem.Not very tourist friendly...

We took two pizzas 4 Seasons, one customized and a plain one (same price), along with a large beer and large bottle of mineral water (30€ all included!). We were on the outdoor terrace facing the covered marketThe pizzas were very well stocked, crispy and very tasty.It is the second time that we go to this place and both experiences left us very satisfied.And I am not an easy customer when it comes to pizzas.
We stopped off in Angouleme and ended up having dinner at Le Pistou.The venue is amongst a batch of cafes and bars. It has a very friendly staff that were more then happy to help us when our French ran out.The food was nothing fancy but what they do,they do well.We had pizza and salad and both were very nice.
Situated near to the river and close to the town centre, this pizzeria provides very large good quality pizzas at 9.90€. There is a good choice of other dishes too. Outside seating in the sunshine is a good option but there is also a restaurant inside. The staff were friendly and efficiently.
Lovely food; the pizzas are great. Outside seating watching the world go by in summer, cosy inside in winter. Been coming for years now as family live about 40 minutes away. Hopefully visiting again next week!

If you're looking for something other than French food, this is a very good place to try, serving excellent authentic pizzas and burgers with a good selection of wines and beers.
