This is my local, we go to the pub at least once a month. The food selection is limited but excellent quality, the best Rumsteak in the area. Portions are huge (although you can opt for children's portions) and the prices very affordable. This is one -if not the only one- of the few restaurants in Argenton Sur Creuse offering free entertainment during the weekends. Our favourite night is the Indian night, the best Indian I have had in France. The Spanish nights and the Soireé medieval are also a big hit. Unfortunately, this place was so bad, we didn't even get to eat here. We waited nearly an hour to be served for lunch....Thought there was another couple there eating, what appeared to be salad. A man walked through two or three times eventually said his staff were late because they had a party the previous night with dancing on the tables. As if that made it more appealing! It smelled of unwashed floors, beer spilled? And certainly of unwashed dog. Very musty. As it appeared that he didn't want to serve us or at least hand us a menu. We had read it served fish and chips that day. We returned home and cooked our own.
The fish and chips here are good and reasonably priced.We've had good and bad meals here though - one visit was great with really nice food but on the second visit 2 meals out of the 4 had poor quality (fatty, gristly) meat.The service was good - really friendly.
This was a bad experience, the food was poor and the service time was slow. It could be a great place but off the beaten track it needs to be more than good. An English restaurant in a French village needs to produce excellent english food
