With the "Le Bouche a Oreille" closed (only 500m away and well worth stretching your legs) we visited Le Raz Blanchard with some trepidation having heard various reports good & bad.As previous reviewers have stated it is now under new management and is much improved. A slight caveat is that the night we visited was mid week and we were the only table occupied so the chef was hardly stretched.We ate off the 22 Euro Menu with the majority having a generous portion of prawns (with or without welks) as a starter and rump steak as a main. The steak was a little bit chewy but otherwise ok and came with chips (pre-salted), veg, and an onion sauce. An again generous portion of profiteroles followed...
This restaurant has been recently taken over by Frederic Courriere.- in June 2015 in fact.Some of the French reviews are not good BUT and it is a big but, refer to the previous owners!!The restaurant is on the port at Dielette,not in Cherbourg, has a straightforward menu of good quality food,well cooked and served by friendly,unobtrusive manner.Fixed price menus of 22 and 28 euro plus lunch prix fixe for 12 euros.House wine is very reasonable and of good qualityThere is a lovely balcony(if the wind is not blowing too hard with views over the marina.English us spoken.
My sailing companion and I ate here and overall it was a pleasant experience. My hake was wonderfully cooked; succulent and tasty. My friend's veal was reportedly very good too.The only issue was that we had to wait an hour between placing our order and any food arriving at the table. The restaurant was not too busy but let's hope that was not a regular feature of what is otherwise a very reasonable restaurant.Note that the restaurant is shut on Tuesday and Sunday evenings and all day Monday.
6 of us had a fixed price buffet lunch for 16 euros and really enjoyed it. The choice was good and the quality of the food excellent. The cold buffet starter was followed by a hot, tasty turkey dish with lovely steamed and roasted potatoes.The restaurant was about half full and everyone seemed to be enjoying lunch. I do wonder if there is some confusion between this restaurant and one in Cherbourg. The map shows Cherbourg but the address says Dielette. Anyway - I have added a photo to make sure you have the right place.The Raz Blanchard is the Yacht Club in Dielette marina. A great setting and good seating inside and out (if not too windy). Service was good and we had a good lunch there of fillet and frites.
The sign on the door says which days they were closed, so we duly arrived at 7pm but it never opened. In the end we visited a couple of days later and had a good meal. They said they were open as it was holiday next Tuesday.So good food and service in a nice setting but do check it is open before wasting your time.
A warm welcome led to a pleasant apero on the balcony, followed by a well prepared and presented meal. The fish we three had was cooked exactly right, the fourth had a steak, proclaimed to be perfect. We drank reasonably priced wine, and were looked after in an attentive and inconspicuous way.
Under new ownership,new menus,excellent value for money. Small restaurant overlooking the port with nice balcony for outside dining in good weather. Le Raz Blanchard is conveniently situated adjacent to the marina. We had 2 excellent evening meals. The service was rapid and very courteous. The meals were well prepared and presented and very good value. My only regret is that I don't have access to a similar restaurant in the U.K.
