My wife and I had travelled for the day from Fontainebleau to visit the Chateau Maintenon, and once we found the chateau parking lot, we walked the 100 meters or so through the downtown to find a basic eatery before entering the chateau. The Relais de Chateau is essentially right across the way from the ticket office, the menu looked reasonable for what we were seeking. Being late September, we were promptly seated by friendly wait staff, menus provided. My wife and I usually try to consume local cuisine, but under these circumtances, we decided to split a quatre fromage pizza. Located across the street from the Chateau de Maintenon, this is a friendly little cafe, worth a visit either before or after your tour of the chateau. Other reviewers talked about slow service. Keep in mind, this is not Paris. The world moves more slowly outside the city so you can either complain about it or accept it and sit there on the town square and watch the world go by while you enjoy sipping your coffee. I chose to do that and had a fine and very relaxing experience. Try it.
This is a truely terrible restaurant. I have been a few times with our guests as we live local and for a quick drink or snack it's ideally located......that's as good as it gets! Last time ordered drinks and waited 30 mins, total incompetence. Avoid at all costs, because they will never improve if clients keep going, they are an embarrassment for the town!
I had read the less than favorable reviews and took a chance....worst decision I ever made....the rum steak could not even be cut with a steak knife...inedible...service was beyond slow and disagreeable....do yourself a favor—avoid at all cost
