Started badly, when they tried to sit five of us around a two-foot square table for dinner. Although we had reserved, we had to fetch our own bigger table from the grassed area and even then the waitresss wanted to take the parasol away with the small table leaving us with no shade, we had to clean the table ourselves with a single wet wipe the waitress handle to us. She then said that there were no fried dishes other than the chips as the oil shortage meant that they could only use one frier for chips. Scampi and battered fish were off the menu. We couldn't order chicken pie with chips, as that only came with mash, although the mash was served in a separate bowl so wouldn't have been too di...
Bi-lingual staff welcome you to a more or less typical English bar/restaurant. Fine menu every day except Wednesdays. Live music, quizzes, large number of well kept beers. Inside or outside tables. Very friendly and helpful and it speaks for itself that everybody was happy and chatty. The cod in Kilkenny beer batter with chips and peas, is to die for but don't ignore the rest of the menu. Light and fluffy and not over cooked. Afterwards you can walk your meal off round the beautiful and well maintained Lake de Lavaud. Let you dogs run and swim in the lake,
The setting is lovely. The grass runs down to the large lake. The fish and chips are good but the roast beef sunday lunch was very poor to my taste. I like my beef rare but I suspect that the mainly British clientele prefer well done. When I asked how the beef was cooked I was told not to worry, It was well cooked ! Draft beer makes a welcome change. Most sundays they have live music with many of the old favorite songs. Over all a very pleasant experience we are now more selective with our food.
Soleil Couchant has an incredible view over the lake and this, in itself, is so relaxing just watching the small yachts go by and general people watching is fun while you enjoy a really varied menu. The snack menu is varied and superb for lunch. The main menu provides a good all around choice to suit any taste. Highly recommended especially for their music events that include top notch players. Booking recommended for Events, Friday and Saturday nights.
We will never go again. This place attracts some less than desirable English (not Scottish/Welsh/Australian) who use profanities at the bar. And then, the young son of the owners spreads himself along the length of a settee in the bar area to eat his plate of chips, whilst some customers would have been grateful for a seat. We went again for a drink a few days ago and left immediately because of swearing at the bar.
It's a pleasure to have a chicken curry and enjoy a beer outside in late september. The waitress who did me a favour by speaking English to me was charming. I wish we had come at night because I would have enjoyed a gig.One friend had fish and chips and said it was the real thing Wish the best to all of you.

Waited for our food for over an hour only to be told they had forgotten to send our order to the kitchen! Lovely setting but best to bring a picnic.
