Am surprised Le Terminus is only rated 15th in the town! For me, it offers great value for money and sophisticated cuisine, with a choice of four "formule" lunches ranging from €15.50 (two course) to €35, the latter offering a starter, main course, and cheese and desserts from trollies - amazing selections, see my photos.. The menu also includes a selection of fish main courses, in which they specialise, the fish coming from a local supplier. This restaurant had been recommended by French & Brit friends but the food on Monday 11 July 16 was not at all good. The starter of 9 oysters was fine but the main course of a "mixed grill" of 3 fish was dreadful. It was grossly overcooked, dry and tasteless. No vegetables. I am a novice cook but I have yet to produce something this bad and if I ever do I'll be too ashamed to serve it to anyone. The cheese was OK although the waiter struggled to prepare the 'tête de moin'. I finished with a small fresh fruit salad but it would have cost more to have a morsel of ice-cream on it. The Maitre de D is charming but is badly let down by his staff. The waitresses are very smart in their little black dresses but their intelligence does not match their dress sense. There were 4 of us and we ordered from different menus .This muddled them. Eventually the Maitre de D had to step in to help them out. The food was moderate especially the Creme Brulée.My friend ordered "Steak Tartare" which arrived cooked as a burger!! On the cheese board were the remains of a cheese that we like. This is an excellent restaurant. The welcome and service was excellent and the food was exceptional. Moderately priced, we had the menu gourmand which had plenty of choice. The fish comes from Ile D'Oleron where we spent a month in early summer and is brought in daily. The oysters are from the Marrennes and of course freshly opened and exquisite. Wine menu is very good and very reasonable. A la Carte even has Ris de Veau which I will have next time. Having a holiday home near Angouleme, we are lucky to have access to many eateries all the way to Cognac, La Rochelle and Bordeaux. However, a year does not pass when we visit Le Terminus. This place was recommended by my son in law who said that it had a very good wine list. Apart from that, the food is excellent and seasonal. We are never disappointing - it deserves a Michelin Star. We go there at least once every summer we are out there.
We had been meaning to go for a long time as we had heard good reports. The 2 course fixed lunch menu was excellent value and beautifully presented. Nice vegetables which is unusual in France. The swordfish was exceptionally good. We had a free amuse bouche and they made a special one for my gluten allergic husband. The maitre d' was a little impatient but the rest of the staff were quite charming. We would go again.
It is not often one considers a restaurant close to a main railway station to be a quality restaurant, but this one is. It has everything: ambience, superb food so beautifully presented and excellent service. It is not inexpensive, but well worth the money for the experience.

Great restaurant right opposite the main station, not to be missed, good menu, fish a speciality, fantastic cheese board & sweet trolly, very good wine list, service great, just overall a very good restaurant.
