Don’t sleep on the Leaping Lizard Cafe! I’ve driven by many times and I have to say that I’m sad it’s taken me this long to actually stop in. Don’t let the small front fool you. I thought it was going to be this tiny little cafe and when I walked through the door, the world opened up. Such a cute space, the back opens up and lets nature in. I had about four or five meals that I couldn’t choose between because the menu has such a variety. After a delicious meal (pesto chicken sandwich) and top notch service, we strolled out back to enjoy the company of the four Canadian Geese on property as well as Bentley the dog. Today 's lunch was extremely disappointing. I had the chicken salad sandwich...the chicken was tough and large chewy chunks. No flavor. The potato salad was inedible. The slice of melon was delicious. My friend ordered open faced oven roasted turkey ...it was not open faced and nothing oven roasted about it. Potato salad just awful. No aioli...mayonnaise. I was very disheartened as obviously care is no longer taken in the preparation of their food. It used to be so good. It does not take a lot to season food. I know as I actually cook and am very careful with the food I do buy and not grow myself. Will not be returning. Atmosphere and service lovely.
Food was…weird. Duck hash had such a strange combination of flavor. The sweet potato biscuit was delicious but not with the rest of the dish. The same can be said for the crab cake Benedict. That dish was better than the hash though. Also tried the chicken adobo soup- might be the saltiest thing I’ve ever had. The place was cool, service was good but the food wasn’t it. Maybe we picked the wrong items but we were excited to eat and were a bit disappointed.
What a whimsical and inviting place this is. Make a reservation to ensure you get a table and don’t miss out on this charming little place. The food was fresh and delicious. I had an open faced tuna melt, husband had a breakfast burrito, my oldest had peach pancakes and my youngest PBJ. Sure would have been nice to get lunch today at the Leaping Lizard Cafe a place we loved to go to every year while down here in VB on vacation. Called to place an order for pick up and I'm literally still on the phone 45 minutes later waiting for someone to take my order. They literally put the phone down and I can hear all the conversation going on. At this point I'm just looking to see how long it will take.
LL is such a popular place, it is good to make a reservation. Service was prompt and pleasant. The menu offers excellent variety with some unusual and delicious dishes. The servings are generous. My salmon filet was perfectly cooked (not dried out) despite a full restaurant...testimony to a skilled chef. The crab quiche was also outstanding. Much that is served is grown on site or locally sourced. FIVE STARS
We stopped here for brunch on a Monday morning and were definitely not disappointed! We tried the pimento and cheese BLT, the French toast, and the sweet potato biscuit with soup. Everything was SO delicious. The restaurant vibe is very cool and the chickens and geese in the backyard are nice to check out. Would definitely suggest coming early as this place gets busy quick!
Outside of the limited parking lot everything was fantastic as usual. Their food, to me, is not heavy where I feel like I need a nap afterwards. Weather was great for the open patio. Lovely, quaint and rustic brunch spot! Great for kids to explore in the outdoor dining area and see some farm animals. Food is so fresh and creative. We could definitely visit this place again!
