My wife and I visited the L'Escale twice on the same day. It was a mid July Saturday and we had tickets to the cirque du soleil show. Before the show we had a beer at L'Escale. We both had a draft beer. My beer was fine - I ordered a blond. My wife's beer however was flat , not cold enough and tasted watered down- she ordered a red draft. We complained to the waitress, who was very nice and understanding. The waitress replaced the beer, but the replacement was not much better! After the cirque du soleil show, we returned to have a meal. My wife asked for another draft, this time the waitress told her that they were having problems with some of their drafts and they had a limited selection av...

Came here for a celebration lunch after a house sale since we had a cracking meal here over a year ago . Alarm bells should have rung since the place was empty at 12-45!!!Chose the cheapest lunchtime menu (24euros) ... a ridiculous price for lunch in France but pushing the boat out we expected good food and service . There was no choice .. the wines were expensive ( house wine advertised on a tiny board inside ) . The gesier salad smelled very strong and off as soon as it arrived . A piece of "foi gras " on limp " toast " perched in the middle of a lettuce leaf .We were hungry and each ate at least half the offering despite our better judgement . The main course of confit with mash potato an...
I shared my birthday lunch with very special friends over on holiday from Australia.Three of us had the menu du jour which was 14.50 euros. Three courses of absolutely delicious food, especially the main course which was slow cooked lamb with caramelised oranges and prunes, absolutely to die for and the best dish I have had this year.We ate outside under the cloistered arches which was cool despite the searing heat outside.Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We have had family celebrations and many dinners and lunches in the three years we have been spending summers in the Gers. The service was excellent and the wait staff very helpful, nothing too much trouble.
A nice location on the main square with a picturesque terrace. The place was busy when we arrived but even allowing for this the service was too slow. Menu du Jour euro.14.50 for 3 courses. Chicken Supreme with boiled potatoes euro.18 Lamb euro.22 We did not have a starter and waited about one hour for our main course to arrive. So presumably cooked from scratch but still a long time to wait...quite good but not superb. The carafe white wine was disappointing, quite acidic. Coffee on the house. At least during the main tourist season they should consider hiring one more person to serve and one more in the kitchen. So overall, nearly there but not quite. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Out sightseeing, we found ourselves in Montreal at lunch time. According to Yelp, it was the only restaurant open in town. We got the last 2 seats available, as they had a huge group sitting outdoors, using up all the tables. In general, it didn't look that inviting, and we probably should have driven to another town but by noon things start to fill up and we were not familiar with the area. As expected the inside service got a bit slow with the huge group outside. I had chicken brochettes, and my husband had fish, grilled Dorade which was fine. Just basic fare.
can't believe how bad it was eating. we all ordered lammage. it came in a bowl with chips. no sweet and looked so gray. was obviously microwaved. for euro, shocking! and then to finish it, we ordered a caffe gourmand euro. it had little whispers that were all bought. no home kitchen here at all. the cream brûlée looked like it was made before. for including wein came to euro. not cheap and so disappointing! I have to add that we will not go back.
we stopped here to rest after the exploration of the charming village montréal du gers. what a pleasant foundation. the outdoor terrace offers a view of the village activity in the front row. the food was well done and delicious. the service was attentive and friendly to our awkward. French we relaxed and in the warm gascony sunshine. when they have the opportunity, they stop here for a look into a beautifully held city that feels frozen in time.
This must have been one of my longest lunches (2.5 hours for three courses). Service was chaotic, our five main courses did not arrive at the same time (and it seemed to be the same for all the tables on that day). Maybe a problem in the kitchen. Some dishes were interesting (tartare of St-Jacques and St-Pierre) but size of the portions was a bit small. Nice setting in main city courtyard. Again maybe a bad day but I would not recommend it. The village of Montreal in Gers is a good place to visit, and L'Escale is right in the central square. The restaurant is well known so if it's a holiday then reservations should be made. On our visit we had the cassoulet with duck, sausage...and white beans ... incredible, along with a demi pichet of local red Gasconne wine. The service is good and attentive; a very good restaurant if you happen to be in this part of the world.
