Easily found in the charming village square at Montreal, Gers we arrived just a little too late for the Plat-du-Jour which was at first disappointing but then allowed us to be adventurous. Not cheap at for two of us but that included beers (it...was a hot day) and a shared dessert of Fromage cream and fig purée and spoons! For the main course we had magret (duck breast) and steak tartare.. for us adventurous.. but have no fear it was superbly presented and tasted sublime.. one of the best meals my partner and I have had on this trip... with possibly the best chips we had both EVER tasted... ever... even in Yorkshire ... even at Whitby.. really .. they were triple cooked, slightly crispy outs...
Out sightseeing, we found ourselves in Montreal at lunch time. According to Yelp, it was the only restaurant open in town. We got the last seats available, as they had a huge group sitting outdoors, using up all the tables. In general, it didn't...look that inviting, and we probably should have driven to another town but by noon things start to fill up and we were not familiar with the area. As expected the inside service got a bit slow with the huge group outside. I had chicken brochettes, and my husband had fish, grilled Dorade which was fine. Just basic fare.
can't believe how bad it was eating. we all ordered lammage. it came in a bowl with chips. no sweet and looked so gray. was obviously microwaved. for euro, shocking! and then to finish it, we ordered a caffe gourmand euro. it had little whispers that were all bought. no home kitchen here at all. the cream brûlée looked like it was made before. for including wein came to euro. not cheap and so disappointing! I have to add that we will not go back.
we stopped here to rest after the exploration of the charming village montréal du gers. what a pleasant foundation. the outdoor terrace offers a view of the village activity in the front row. the food was well done and delicious. the service was attentive and friendly to our awkward. French we relaxed and in the warm gascony sunshine. when they have the opportunity, they stop here for a look into a beautifully held city that feels frozen in time.

The village of Montreal in Gers is a good place to visit, and L'Escale is right in the central square. The restaurant is well known so if it's a holiday then reservations should be made. On our visit we had the cassoulet with duck, sausage...and white beans ... incredible, along with a demi pichet of local red Gasconne wine. The service is good and attentive; a very good restaurant if you happen to be in this part of the world.
the food was delicious and the staff was all thoughtful and friendly and polite and cheerful. the large quantity was treated with flexibility (some very late arrival) and gnade. directly at the town square of montréal de gers.
on the square of the beautiful bastide city montreal. we had the nikoisesalat and the seafood salad. the samosas are great! the pudding was nice to pass on the crust. good espresso.
Worst meal I have had, slimy kebab and plastic cheese with the burger, also chose to serve pizza order first even though they came in later

We live in the area. We have been to this place twice in years as there are far better places in the near vicinity.
Duck breast with frites and a small carafe of red wine. Very tasty and reasonably priced. Great service too.
