the weinlokal is a bit hidden and can be reached by means of a stone staircase from the road. first you come to a small farm where there are some tables. then you come into a beautiful cave with vault and a pretty uneven floor. it has a small but fine selection of wines, especially rosé wines. for eating there are cold plates or sandwiches. jordan, the host, is very interested in his guests. you feel comfortable right away. the music selection is very good and sometimes not too loud.
We tried to visit this place three times on different days and time, , but it was closed(even on Saturday night); although, the website says it's open everyday from 10 am to 10 pm. The wine we tried was very good. There is no seating inside, so try to get through table that is closer to the entrance to the bar, hidden away from the street or you will be looking at noise traffic passing by in front of the archway leading to the patio.
We stopped here for a couple of glasses of wine before dinner and were warmly welcomed by the owner/bartender who made a significant effort to chat with us about what we'd been doing even though we had a language barrier, it felt very friendly and welcoming! There is a cool outside seating area in the medieval walls which is very pleasant in the evening heat, great selection of wines and good ambiance, would definitely recommend.
Stopped by this beautiful wine bar a couple of times during our week long stay in Bonnieux. We enjoyed sampling the very nice selection of local rose wines and also enjoyed getting to know Jordan the owner. I would highly recommend stopping by when in town for a glass of wine or two! Happened across this cave while walking into town - excellent selection of local wine and a great atmosphere to enjoy a glass. The company of Jordin was excellent, and once you have a glass of wine there it is difficult to leave. Exceptional place - a must on a visit to Bonnieux.
Thanks to Jordan for making our family holiday so enjoyable in Bonnieux! Jordan was an amazing host and L'Esprit du Sud the perfect spot to spend the afternoons cooling off and enjoying some great wines together! We will be back - Cheers from Canada!
very friendly reception with jazzy atmosphere. Don't miss this cellar in the top of the village. Along with a board of cutters and cheeses, the boss will offer you wines from the region to the glass.
