On the way to the Périgord from the Paris region on November 11, 2022, we decided to take a lunch break in Argenton on Creuse where we arrived at the right time for lunch. Since the disappearance of the classic version of the Guide Michelin we have adopted other guides such as the Logis de France where I discovered the hotel restaurant Le Prieuré. While browsing their website I discovered their menu quite attractive and very well placed in prices. A call to book and here we are. A menu served including particularly competitive public cheeks (26,50€ entry and flat, 33,50€ with dessert), with a few reasonable supplements for some entries or dishes. A fourth stay in this Logis hotel. The rooms are sufficiently correct and clean for a professional trip. The table is excellent fine and hearty dishes, tasty wines. The dishes are so hearty that I didn't take the dessert from the menu. Me neither. Just a coffee served before leaving and that was charged for an extra charge. I noticed to the young woman who cashed me that he could have been put in balance of unused foods, what she told me that he compensated for the fact that some take a very hearty breakfast (sub emeritus, dear to them and that you have to catch another customer). Not dramatic but damaging to customer service.
This was the second time that we stopped at "Le Prieuré" on our way to the little town of La Celle Dunoise in the Creuse department. We arrived at 6:30 pm, sat in the garden and had an aperitif before dinner at 7:00. The restaurant offers a few regional dishes. Our choice was fillet of pike-perch that was cooked with great care. Service is relaxed but attentive and despite the £ sudden collapse after Brexit, the bill was still more than reasonable. All in all a great stop, close to the motorway to Limoges, but still off the beaten track.
A very beautiful night as well as an excellent evening at the restaurant, a simple but refined cuisine with a limited choice given the season but good things with a discreet and efficient service by a team of motivated young people. A perfect overnight stopping place en route to Toulouse. They've made some lovely improvements to the grounds since we stayed last summer. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. We have a relaxing and delicious evening meal on the terrace, very welcome after a long day in the car.
Had our best food here during our 2 week cycle tour through France. French food at its best. We had a set meal but with a choice of fish or chicken for the main. Portions were generous and everything was very well presented. House wine was excellent and very good value for money.
Hotel very easily accessible from the highway, comfortable rooms, super-sympa and helpful staff, very good local restaurant in a very beautiful room.
