I'm giving this place a 4 because I have been here quite a few times and always have a decent experience. This is sort of a halfway meeting spot between some Hamilton and K/W friends with kids. So on a Saturday at 5:30PM we usually don't have a problem getting a table for 12-16. Service has usually been good and they have always worked to accommodate our group. To be honest, we usually try for the Keg in this plaza but the wait can be far too long there with kids. The food is ok, I personally go with the Big Rig Burrito or the Chicken Chimichanga because I can't eat it all and bring home half for lunch, plus those are items I can't easily make myself. "Meh" describes the food. It was enough, but a little on the lean side. I was expecting more for the price. $18 for a single chimichanga is a bit high. The condiments came in what could best be described as thimbles. I had the chicken chimichanga, it was ok. The side of rice and refried beans was small and not warm. The chimichanga was warm but I have a feeling it was waiting under the warming lamp because the melted cheese was a little hard by the time it got to the table. My friends had chicken fajitas. This is our second visit to Lone Star. The first visit was to the Ancaster location and it was a couple of years ago. We weren't a fan that visit. We wanted to give our local Lone Star a chance so decided to head to this location. We are glad we did. This was a great time. Hallie (I hope I spelled her name correct) was one of the best servers we have had in a long time. She was very nice, easy going, and knowledgeable about the restaurant. She took care of us. The atmosphere was great. There were two large parties and even with them, it was perfect. We waited 10 mins for our table. The food was good. When did Lone Star start charging for the once free tortillas and salsa on the table? We were given our chips without being ask if we wanted any, assuming as all the other Lone Stars we have been to were included free. I did see on the table a notice that they money goes to a charity - and also say it on the bill. I know $1.00 is not a big deal at all, just would have liked to have been asked. I always wanted to go to this place and finally got the chance. I was not disappointed. I love smoky flavored food and this hit the mark. We ordered a sample platter of the all you can eat fajitas and were impressed by the amount of meat that came out. The price was pretty good too. I highly recommend you try it at least once if the thought of a texas bbq makes your mouth water.
Overall the meal was ok. Service was slow, and the place was not overly busy. Didn't have first type of red wine on the menu.Shared fajita's, chicken and steak. Had to keep asking for more sour cream & pico de gallo. It came on a tray with shredded cheese and lettuce, but were only small portions.Don't get sucked into the 20oz draft, stick with the normal 16oz.
We used to go here fairly regularly, and were disappointed that they don't have the free chips and salsa any more. They also discontinued the big rig burrito I used to order. Rest of the food was just ok will probably not be returning again as there is no longer anything that sets them apart from the other chains around.
I have not tried the Lone Star in a while and was pleasantly surprised. I had the steak salad and it was really good. My husband also liked his meal. Food was good change the menu again. We go for the fajitas however they got rid of the barbecued one which was our favorite sad to see it go. Wait staff was slow
