I’ve had sushi and sashimi from many places, and Maak Mt. Pleasant ranks just one step above my worst experiences. I tried placing an order through their app, but it kept saying the order was incomplete—I attempted this three times with no success. Strike one! I then tried ordering over the phone, restarted the app, made sure I had a strong signal, but still no luck. Strike two! When I finally called, it was extremely difficult to hear the polite young woman taking my order. I arrived earlier than expected and was surprised to find my order nearly ready—great, I thought. I order from this restaurant quite often, but recently I've noticed they've been very stingy with the wasabi and ginger. I had to pay for my ginger, but they didn’t inform me it was just a tiny portion. The wasabi was watered down and lacked any spice, and the picture clearly shows it's much thinner compared to what wasabi typically is. It's disappointing that they would treat loyal customers this way without any prior warning.
The staff here are very nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is enjoyable with well-presented food. However, I don't particularly care for the taste. I've tried all of their sushi, and it has a fast-food quality that I don’t appreciate. If you're expecting traditional sushi, this might not be the place for you. Still, I do come here when some of my coworkers want to dine out.
The server at the front of the house welcomed us, took care of us, served us, and was very knowledgeable and helpful in taking our order. He suggested a dish for our older daughter who was unsure of what to order, and she ended up enjoying it. He was a true gentleman and I wish I could remember his name. Hopefully he reads this review - maybe he'll remember our granddaughter?

The restaurant has a very inviting appearance from the street. As a vegetarian, I was offered only one type of roll, and I wish it had been the one with seaweed on the outside. I found it a bit lacking in flavor, and the slices were quite small. My husband tried various shrimp, salmon, and crab rolls and was very pleased. Definitely worth a visit to see for yourself.
The food was excellent. We brought our 3-year-old named Paisley and ordered her a grilled cheese. She ended up being more interested in the fries, so we tried the sandwich ourselves. It was the best restaurant grilled cheese we have ever had.
We will definitely order the Spicy Pork-Boi sandwich with a side of firesticks and the Sea Nachos again! We couldn’t finish everything, but we’re already excited to come back for our new favorites!
Had egg drop soup. Took forever to get. Did not taste like egg drop soup. The place was great when they first opened but the changes just aren't for me.

I tried several different dishes and loved them all! The owner is a wonderful person. I highly recommend this place. Just take a look at this sushi!
