Although the food was really nice, I was really disappointed in realising that I had tipped TWICE, and felt like I was tricked into it. After being presented with the bill I had no time to check it as the waiter was stood there with the card machine and asked if I had wanted to leave a tip. I did, and proceeded to leave a tip via the card machine. After the waiter left I then saw that the bill ALREADY had a 10% service charge added to it. So if the bill already has an optional service charge on it, why am I being asked again if I want to leave a tip??! We come here often and the food is always really good. We visited recently and again the Ramen and sushi was very tasty. The service on the other hand was very disappointing. We waited over 30 mins to have our plated cleared and in the end I had to find waiting staff for a dessert menu. Ordered dessert and waited another 20 mins for it not to arrive. Again had to find waiting staff to cancel dessert because we had to be home for babysitter and we'd been there 2 hours! So slow service, and no dessert ended up ruining the meal for us.
A fairly quiet and relaxing atmosphere allowing for conversation without the need of shouting, post-it notes filling the walls with thoughts and creations from clients, all done through the post-it blocks and pens provided at the tables. Food was great, the gyoza were soft to chew, ramen bowl was tasty, takoyaki were delicious to have and the kimchi, albeit being too fresh (little to no fermentation), had a nice flavour as well. We came out with stomach filled with delicious food and warm feelings.

Both our ramens were very oily and chicken was tough and grey in colour. Very disappointed with the quality of the food but even more the service. The service was blunt and we were constantly waiting for staff to come round but they seemed more interested in hiding than serving the customers, to the point I had to find a member of staff to ask for the bill. We would not recommend this to anyone and unfortunately will not be returning.
I dined here at Maki Ramen with it being the only place near my hotel that would take walk-ins. I was promptly seated at the bar. I ordered a few pieces of nigiri and the black garlic tonkotsu. Unfortunately the rice on the nigiri was stale and somewhat tough. Thankfully the ramen broth was very flavorful. You also get a fairly generous portion of tender pork. All-in-all a surprisingly delicious bowl of ramen.
Exceptional service and genuine kindness! Celebrated my son's birthday here and the staff went above and beyond to make it memorable. Can't thank them enough for the surprise treat they offered. Such a lovely gesture! We had a fantastic time, and my son thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus, the food was outstanding as usual—undoubtedly one of the best Japanese spots in the city. Definitely coming back for more!
Despite how busy it was, we got seated in just under 30 mins without a booking. The food we ordered was really delicious and probably the best asian food I have ever eaten in my life. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is feeling rather peckish after a spot of shopping in the town. I now feel happy and warm after my meal. Thank you chefs xx

Maki and Ranen provide an exceptional ramen experience that consistently exceeds expectations. This restaurant has become our go-to spot, delivering fantastic flavours and a dining experience which never fails to impress. From the rich broth to the perfect handmade noodle. The ramen was outstanding! We would definitely come back if we were in Edinburgh again. Staff were also friendly and the service was good.
