I was on my way to get some much needed supplies for a very ill lady I look after and on my way she called me, this is unusual and she only does this due to some distress she is in. I couldnt answer as my hands free is broken so I chose this pub carpark to pull over and make this call, away from exercising public. I park up and immediately rang the lady. Not a child friendly pub. Welcoming and happy to serve us with , no issues with food and drinks. If your looking for a family friendly pub this is not the place for you. I have 2 lively spirited children and they were made to feel a problem. I can see that it’s an older generation cliental, but the problem with that is that will eventually end and if they don’t welcome the next generation then the pub will fail and close. A most disappointing experience. We won’t be returning as made to feel an inconvenience and felt we had out stayed our welcome.
I stopped by the Malt Shovel for a birthday lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see that they now offer 8-inch pizzas on their menu. As a seasoned pizza lover, I had never tried a pizza without tomato sauce before, so I decided to order the Ham Shroom pizza with Béchamel sauce instead. When it arrived, I was impressed by the deliciously crispy base, the creamy sauce, and the amazing smoky ham. The balsamic glaze on top added the perfect finishing touch to an outstandingly flavorful pizza. Thank you, Brad and Margaret, for a fantastic meal.

This is a unique experience, like turning the clock back to how traditional British pubs used to be before the big chains became dominant. No piped music. No gaming machines. No computer-screen order taking. Fantastic real ale and excellent home-cooked food. The menu is simple, traditional and great value. This pub is a credit to the landlord and landlady.
I highly recommend the Malt Shovel as a charming neighborhood pub with a friendly, family atmosphere. The owners are welcoming and accommodating, and they offer a variety of events throughout the week. Whether you're looking for a pint, a pub quiz, or delicious food, this is the place to go.
My friends and I attended the pub quiz last Tuesday and we tried the new pizzas they had on offer. The toppings were delicious and the crust was not oily. The garlic and cheese bread was outstanding. We will definitely be ordering these pizzas every week from now on.
Popped in on the off chance, 5 hungry adults. Good range of food, all freshly prepared, very friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
