Even in the dim evening light we could see neglect on the grounds ... what once might have been a quite beautiful hotel was rusted, peeling or abandoned, and not in a rustic-chic sort of way. I'm sad to say the dinner was the same. Our meal lacked the most basic levels of quality, for the highest prices we've paid outside of Lisbon. The worst offences--the frying oil tasted old; many sauces tasted like they were from a bottle; the 42 euro dogfish pasta was weirdly served with too much cheap elbow macroni; when we asked for fresh ground pepper, we were given a breakfast-service-style shaker that was rancid. The place has the potency to be stunning. It was probably some years ago. Alas it is running down a bit and needs maintenance which you encounter in the restaurant, in the rooms, in the greenhouse. Lots of little things that are not working and lots of iron that is definitely rusting away. The furniture and glasses and so on are really ‘cool’, made for there and nowhere else to be found. It’s original for sure. Chairs absolutely uncomfortable though to enjoy the night with friends and food. The food was nice. For dinner there was one vegan option. Charming qb The place has a beautiful scenery and it provides with a very nice atmosphere filled with enchanting but the food ends up being a little bit disappointing and the service is not in liven with the expectations created by the space in itself. Don’t get me wrong the food is good but not exceptional nor extraordinary. Though the choice of names has sense of humour and feeds our imagination and the expectation. Not overly priced wish is in liven with the quality of the food. Would make a difference if the service and attendance would be differential and it was not as we had to go to the reception to get the bill checked and pay. O espaço é bastante agradável, com uma decoração alternativa, os colaboradores muito simpáticos, no entanto a qualidade da comida não vai de encontro às expetativas. Pedimos feijoada de coentros e chocos, que estava com pouco sabor e o pato com esparregado era muito bom, mas a carne estava apenas selada e pouco cozinhada, bastante crua em alguns pontos. Para entrada pedimos as bolinhas de morcela que, apesar de boas são um pouco caras face ao tamanho das mesmas. Como prato principal pedimos o risotto de beterraba que estava muito saboroso e servido em justa quantidade. Para finalizar, experimentámos a mousse, também ela muito boa. O vinho a copo tem boas opções, mas o custo é ligeiramente elevado. O serviço é muito simpático e rápido. Recomendo!

Lugar muy relajado y bonito, con toques bohemios. Bastante caro, pero de buena calidad. Hay un postre que no recomiendo: las frutas con chocolate. Es literalmente eso, frutas y chocolate; sin embargo el mousse estaba buenísimo. Había un señor cantando que aporto mucho al ambiente.

I got a tip on this place and I wasn’t wronged in this choice. Nice environment with nice attendees. A must to go if you’re in Obidos or in Caldas da Rainha! Be sure to check the hotel Rio do Prado were Maria Batata is located!

The food is overpriced for the quality but the ambience makes up for it as it is a truly beautiful property and restaurant.
