I called ahead to check if there was a table available as we were nearby, and was happy to hear that there was. The staff assisted me with my walker and showed us to a nice table. I appreciated the open kitchen, the aromas, and the ambiance. I ordered the calamari, which was delicious. My partner opted to skip a starter. They had the spaghetti Bolognese which looked amazing, while I had the stuffed chicken with a fantastic tomato sauce and divine vegetables. We also ordered chips, caprese salad, and focaccia as side dishes, all of which were absolutely delicious. The food was incredible, the staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome. Has this restaurant changed ownership? There has been a complete transformation since last year, when we had an amazing dining experience. I had previously given it a five-star rating. We were seated promptly but not offered a drink. Our table was in a high-traffic area and I was constantly bumped into, so we asked to move. After waiting 20 minutes, we politely inquired about our drinks, but after 40 minutes with no service, we decided to leave. The restaurant was not as busy as it used to be. The staff seemed clueless, as they were spraying cleaning solution all over the tables while people were trying to eat at the next table. We will not be returning and will take our business elsewhere.
We went to Mario's to celebrate our daughter's visit. The atmosphere and food have always been wonderful. The BEST is the Skegness dish. However, we were very disappointed this time. The calamari was so tough that it was inedible, and the rest of the food was just okay. We were left wondering what had gone wrong, and now we know that Mario is no longer there and the restaurant has been taken over. It was very expensive for what it was, so we won't be returning.
Haven’t been to Mario’s since Lockdown! Will defo be going back soon. Really enjoyed our food and friendly service. The pizza was spot on, had the Calabrese, asked for an egg on it, it was so good.
