Good place to sit down and enjoy a bowl of udon that you can pick and choose the toppings that you want. Lots of different options for those with food sensitivities and dietary restrictions. Basically you go up to the counter to choose your broth and noodle amount with some extra toppings like green onion and bonito flakes, move down the line to choose what fried toppings you want to add on top, and move on to the payment counter to pay for your food. They also have a water dispenser that you can go and get your own refills, as well as some spices and ginger available for some additional flavor to your bowl of udon. We usually frequent the Waikiki location, but this time we decided to try the downtown branch instead. The food is consistently excellent, just like at Waikiki. When we arrived, they were preparing fresh shrimp tempura, which made me really excited to try it. Since it was our first visit to this location, we got a bit lost because the GPS said we had arrived when we passed Walmart. We eventually found street parking and had to walk about two blocks. This was one of the best meals I've had on Oahu, if not the best. There were no lines at this location in downtown Honolulu. Come hungry, as the portions are more than generous. Go for the Curry Nikutama, and also get the chicken tempura. You might not be able to move for a couple of hours after having this, but you'll be perfectly happy knowing that you've just had some of the best food you can get on Oahu. 10/10. Would live in the restaurant if they'd let me.
This restaurant often has extremely long lines, so we decided to visit during a quieter time (around 3:30-4pm). The food is delicious and offers great value! I ordered the nikutama udon, mushrooms, rolled egg, and the calamansi-ade. It was my first time trying calamansi, and I really liked its citrus flavor. You can't beat the price of Udon at Marugame! The noodles are fresh, and the broth is well-seasoned. The only downside is that the tempura isn't fresh and can be a bit soggy. On the bright side, there’s no wait time for dinner compared to the Waikiki location!

Very helpful and smiley staff. We didn’t know what to choose and they explained everything. The portions are huge, one udon L is enough for two personas. Very tasty and good for the price.
