We went there for two separate occasions and were so pleased with each time. First time we ordered three courses which were way too much, main courses were very generous, even a bit too much (for us anyways).Each and every dish was terrific. Desserts were so so but everything else was super delicious.Staff is very attendic, great service.Interior isn't special but if you can, sit in the indoor garden section, definitely a better option than in the main restaurant space.The house itself is stunning outside but if you don't know that its a restaurant, absolutely nothing gives it away. Its like visiting a friend really going to that restaurant, outside nothing indicates it.Highly recommended.Oh...
About 18 months ago I left a five star review of Matiz. I was back in town and since I had such a memorable meal there I was looking forward to returning. This time my wife and I thought it was very average. We each did the tasting menu which I still would say is very good value(around 60 US dollars per person). I thought the first tuna dish they served tasted very fishy. I also thought the steak dish was nicely accompanied, but the meat was not very good. The pork dish with apple was terrific. The other tuna dish was also very good. I ordered a pisco sour which was terrific, but I didn't care for the margarita. Matiz is kind of the go to place for top notch cuisine for those of us residing in Bogota. It can be a little hit or miss depending on the variation of the tasting menu they have at the moment, but the range is from very good to superb. The tasting menu is absolutely the way to go. Staff can sometimes give off a somewhat arrogant error and at times be a little too stuffy, but in general service is very good (just be wary of special requests, they do good enough on food that its not their focus to fulfill them). In my opinion, if your looking for haute cuisine in Bogota, this place far outshines the competition like El Cielo or even Criterion (though Criterion also excellent).
It claims to be one of the best restaurants in Bogota but it's actually mediocre at best. Went for lunch and the Chef was actually there which raised expectations... only to find a Magret that was quite bland presented with a thick and bland mango sauce, a Cochinillo dish that was more like a bland version of a pulled pork sandwich and a tuna tartar badly made flooded with soya sauce. The Matiz is a nice restaurant. The setting is romantic and the food is good. To be honest this is a safe bet if you wanna make sure you have a nice cosy evening with good wine and food. As a starter we shared a avocado cannelloni which was nice but was for my taste to heavy on the mayonnaise. As a main course I had meat and my girlfriend fish,which was tasty and well presented.. I liked that you could watch the kitchen team prepare the food. Thank you for a nice evening.
I went because the reviews were very good. Nice setting and atmosphere. Food is good, but not for a Michelin star as some reviewers were suggesting. My fish was good but cheese on top was poorly executed for a restaurant of this price. Bread was amazing and pancetta as entree was great. Desert was very sweet, could have been more sophisticated, meaning less sugar. Anyways is a good restaurant but felt it was a bit overrated.
I have a very easy to understand grading system for restaurants. Will I go back, yes or no? In this case an easy yes! It was very, very good. All of the tasting menu courses were equally as good. Service was excellent. I shall return.
