After three failed attempts to get dinner at other restaurants due to being closed for holiday, my family and our friends we were traveling with to Paris ran into Mersea for cover from the downpour of rain- we should have just gone straight here! They were completely full but still went above and beyond out of their way to make accommodations for us; which we were so grateful for because my toddler was getting hungry! They grabbed tables from outside for us, dried them off, and made a nice little table for us in the perfect nook. They were beyond kind and seemed happy to have us there. We took a long metro ride just to visit this restaurant after reading the positive reviews and got disappointed. The young lady took our order brought the starter which was tasty (tuna) and she disappeared another gentleman was serving all the tables which came after us. After a long wait we asked about our main and was told that simply the young lady punched in the starter and forgot the main course (very pro). Anyway the fish and chips was ordinary and the fries by French standards were no no no. The catchup with beetroot was not a smart invention and the other order (menu de season ) was very basic. We ordered the fish and chips and the octopus and chips. To say the very least, it was the best fish and chips we've ever had.The fish melted in your mouth and the batter was French style which meant lightly battered so the batter wasn't overwhelming at all.The octopus was perfectly cooked. It was't chewy at all and melted in your mouth.The sauce that comes with it is also very good, we've never had a sauce like it before.The guy who seated us, (maybe the owner) was very nice and he even translated the menu for us, he explained the menu to us in perfect English and with delight. Very lovely experience with his service.
Even if the prices remain high (14€ for the standard fish and ships,) the quality is certainly at this price there, the kitchen is good, the panure is light, the small tartare sauce is tasteful to wish, the service is good advice and effective.Special feature for the fish and ships with the octopus. we arrived by chance because too many people in the initially coveted restaurant and that it pleasant surprise! a fish map, simple, cheap! and fresh and succulent products. the staff is smiling and pleasant, brief an address to advise and redo!
